Customer Reviews:
Beautiful.......2001-07-14
I also first heard John on the Thistle & Shamrock and was overcome by the sound of his amazing voice.. I loaned this CD to a singer friend of mine and he plays it for everyone he knows.. So I have to buy another one. This is the perfect gift for that friend who loves great music. Hope you all enjoy it as much as I do.
Well Worth The Price..........2000-10-15
Like the above reviewer I first heard John Wright sing "What's The Use of Wings" and "What You Do With What You've Got" on "The Thistle and Shamrock," and fell in love with them. The CD was very hard to find, and one wonders at the price, since the liner notes aren't particularly extensive, but I'm very thankful to have foundit;it's wellworth the trouble and expense. The two songs I bought itfor are still my favorites, but "Family" also strikes achord and makes me teary-eyed. But"All Used Up" never failsto bring a chuckle. There is a nice mix ofthe slow and powerfullymoving, along with the lively. "What's The Use of Wings,""Angel Flying Too Close To The Ground, " and"Family" are simply beautiful. And anyone who hasexperienced, or is going though (as I am now), a particularlydifficult love affair, or had anyone leave you for someone else, can relate to "Naked To the Eyes" and "Weakness In Me" as well as the refrain from "What's the Use of Wings." And the medley of "Bigg Market Lasses", "Queen of Argyll" (by another of my favorite Scottish singers, Andy M. Stewart), and "Keep It Up" is nicely done. It's a lovely collection, and as soon as I recover from buying a $32 CD I'm planning on getting another John Wright band CD!
A "Must-have" for lovers of Celtic folk songs.......2000-07-17
With a wonderfully clear voice John Wright reaches across the miles and across the years to bring the listener to a simpler lifestyle. He is a professional shepherd who discovered that he could sing, and he brings a richness to his music that can only come from the simple life of a shepherd. His band is amazingly simple - a guitar, a violin, and a voice, giving his songs a level of comfort that is welcome. He was recently featured on National Public Radio's "The Thistle and the Shamrock" program. I particularly loved his song, "What's the Use of Wings". If you are a "free spirit" (or know one) listen to this song. It is worth the price of the whole album.
