Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars not the Mustaphi I remember.......2006-03-13

from me old vinyl, picked up on a remainder table in Der Schweiz lo these twenty years ago. They came to San Diego in '91, and I was all jazzed to go see them, but the first Gulf War started that night, and it ruined me mood.

What about the Three Engineers of the Chiba Railway? The Rose, The Girl, The Wolves?

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous vocals, musical elegance.......2002-10-07

I fell in love with the Mustaphas after hearing their album "Shopping". Heart of Uncle and Soup of the Century are more aggessive in their pursuit of musical complexity (and subtle humor), and the vocals become richer. World beat at it's very best, and a range and mix of styles and instrumentation that can't be beat.

4 out of 5 stars the mysterious mustaphas.......2002-06-20

Oddly enough I never intended to buy this CD; it came from a local music shop packaged as a Stereolab single. Turning out to be more than just a good bang for my buck, the opening track put its hook in me immediately. What's the name, you ask? Well, that's why I'm here surfing Amazon's website. Unfortunately, I've come up empty-handed. 14 tracks in all, a good half are worth the listen, a few shine, and the range of styles, instrumentation, and voices is refreshing throughout. Occasionally, a muted sense of humour shows through. I've since bought the Stereolab CD, but I'm glad somebody botched things up. Some of the best discoveries happen quite by accident!
