Customer Reviews:
Listen to Tom Petty's Last DJ...That's why this isn't on the radio.......2006-04-08
It's really amazing how the music business works. You have J-lo jumping up and down with absolutely no talent and a huge bank account, while on the other hand you have Kevin Fisher founder of the now defunct band Naked To The World with such amazing talent its almost embarrasing that he doesn't even have a major record deal. According to his website he paints houses and wonders why he still does what he does. That's fine. It's like a secret fishing hole that no one else knows about but a select few. Life is amazing.
FANTASTIC!.......2001-01-10
This band emerged out of obscurity to become one of my all-time favorite bands. Not an easy feat for an unknown, unsigned band. Their music is about as beautiful as anything I've heard. Kevin Fisher's lyrics are intelligent and poignant. David James' fantastic fretwork is nothing short of exquisite. I never tire of listening to their music. Not an electric band, Naked To The World tends to soothe you with beautiful acoustic sounds rather than blasting you with electric guitars. The sounds of David James'expertly carresed mandolins, violins, 12 string guitar and even banjo, blended with Kevin Fisher's outstanding vocals and lyrics, squeezes every last drop of emotion out of each song. My favorite on the disc is "My Father And Me" ... a touching ballad relating a man's feelings about the loss of his father. I get misty every single time I listen to it. It has got to be the most beautiful and touching song I've ever heard. And the CD is full of wonderful songs like this ... so much so that you can listen to it over and over and never tire of it. Songs like Pilgrim's Kiss, Fifty-Four Years, Blame It All On You, Garden of Rodin, Breaking Up, Give Your Hand, etc just leave you yearning for more. And there is more. Naked To The World has also released three other CD's, their first self-titled release,1998's fantastic "Glass Half Full", and their most recent release, 2001's "Too Late To Make a Long Story Short". And every one of these CD's is every bit as good as "Pilgrim's Kiss", if not better. Find all four and buy them while they're still available. I guarantee you that, unless you're a headbanger, you'll be very glad that you did.
Totally irresistable.......1998-07-07
The intro draws you into the dance, falling right into the storming passion of Pilgrim's Kiss for a gut-deep delivery (that paraphrased is: Sorry Baby, I'm outta here! --you'll find yourself breaking into it:) My Father And Me takes you out to sea with memory, love, regrets and forgiveness. Don't miss Blame It All On You for a song that intertwines taut emotional undertones of attraction with wistfulness, while Garden of Rodin surges down a path of disturbing intensity. I've seen this group compared to the Beatles (no offense, but I enjoy Naked even more!) and Breaking Up reminds me most of that engaging yet quirky style mastered by the Liverpool boys...and my most favorite of all is Amazing Moon --- an uplifting expression of pure JOY! --I've rarely found these kind of thoughtful lyrics, soaring with such heartfelt expression. If you're not able to experience the *extraordinary* energy of this music played live (an experience that had me laughing, crying and totally inspired!) --then you must get this CD right away (which has, incredibly enough, that same effect on me no matter how many times I play it). Besides, you get a chance to read and savor unusually intelligent and emotive lyrics ...and you get to hear them as many times in a row as you want!
