Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Brooks Williams: 'Seven Sisters'.......2000-01-22

With 'Seven Sisters' Brooks moves from the somewhat more rootsy sound of 'Knife Edge' to a moody, more introspective sound. The exquisite and exceptional production brings out both the soulfulness of Brooks' vocals as well as his richly textured guitar stylings, both of which are in top form here. It's as close as many will get to having Brooks in the room with them! Throughout 'Sisters' Brooks explores themes of loss, longing, regret, and hope with a poignancy and emotional directness perhaps unparalleled in his earlier recordings. While many recognize him as a leader in folk guitar technique, 'Seven Sisters' is a clear indication that Brooks is far more than a fretboard magician. He is also a songwriter able to plumb the depths of his own experience and to communicate such experience with honesty and sensitivity. A superb album that I can not recommend strongly enough.

5 out of 5 stars Brooks Saddens his tone?.......1999-12-18

I have gotten all of his albums to date, and this holds the course as far as style and substance. He has beutiful instrumental numbers, as well as poignant lyrics as always. The songs seem to betray a little more soul searching and hard times for Brooks, who in his strong lyrics walks the listener into his emotions. This album took me a little more time to latch on to, but now is regular fodder for my CD player.
