Whatever process may have brought you here to consider this title, consider yourself most fortunate.

I first learned the name Katrin Roush about a month ago, she was singing solo in a quite large and acoustically challenging venue, presented almost as a "side-show", if you will. But it was just unmistakable, this voice. It changed me, it will likely change you, if you've got the time and the interest. I spent hours searching, in all directions, trying to find any other essentially "unknown" artist with vocal endowment anything like what you will find here.

I am not going to say incredible. Most artists resort to the incredible, here and there, to get the entire production done. But Katrin's really the exception to that rule. This recording is just the most credible piece of audio art that I personally have run across in most of my years. If you yearn for discovery, rather than someone else's "news", you have arrived. Actually, some of it may sound quite familiar, but listen again, you will realize just how fresh it is. And I am not detecting any studio "gimmicks" anywhere, either, this recording appears to be just 100 Percent Natural Spirit.

Make no mistake, this is not music that's really just about the music, or about nothing, or if you don't "get it" you're not cool even if there's nothing to "get". When Katrin emotes, you will feel it, you WILL get the message, every time. Too obvious, you say? Don't let that dissuade you. She has everything to say about just about everything, and you really do need to think about it her way, even if just for a minute. If courage of vision and moral integrity interest you, you will find these qualities in abundance.

Let me show you what I mean. Philosophers and materialists sometimes get into "trick questions" along the lines of "if a tree fell in the forest, would there be any sound?"

To that particular question, I am now ready to propose the answer: there would be a respectful silence. Then all the forces of Nature would team up and recycle every molecule into something new and useful and as beautiful as before but in a different way.

On the other hand, if a weatherproof solar boombox with long-life rechargeable recyclable batteries was playing Nature Spirit over and over in the forest, there wouldn't just be SOUND, there would be a Joyful Noise, some very serious nonstop partying going on. The rocks would be rocking, the sun would rise and set by it, things like that. I am really pretty sure I am NOT exaggerating, although I admit I have yet to "try this at home".

Listen to this 10 times. Tell me you are the same. Give a LOT of love, back to this girl, right now! I am pretty sure she'll forgive me the term "girl".

I am giving 5 stars, but somehow that just seems grossly inadquate.

I had the opportunity to hear Katrin at a Boston area coffeehouse this spring and immediately had to buy her CD. Her beautiful voice and positive vibe are grounded by rockin' guitar playing. Her lyrics are thoughtful and reflective and challenging. My favorite is from Love is a Dance:

You and I, we tend to step around it
Pulling back to let
The other take the lead

It takes both rain and sun
To grow a seed
