What a great CD! "Connections, New American Roots Music" is a tight little Masterpiece. Mark Daly, the gifted featured Artist has written 18 gems. He plays everything in the Mandolin Family, Mandocello, Octave Mandolin, Mandola and Mandolin; even Tenor Banjo on a few cuts. "Connections" is a very diverse offering of primarily New Grass Instrumentals, but there's everything from Swing, Blues, and Latin to traditional American Roots Music on this album. Mark is joined by some outstanding players such as Andy Leftwich on Violin, Clay Hess on Guitar, Randy Kohrs on Resonator guitars, Marc Cole on Banjo, Bob Kennedy on Piano, Nick Lloyd on Double Bass, Joel Walsh Percussion. Russell Moore is the featured High Baritone Vocalist on "Glory Bound" along with Ray Deaton singing Bass and Tenor. Robin Lacy is also Vocalist on "Just One More".

There are so many fine tunes, it would be an injustice to mention just one or two. My favorites along with the Intro track "Ides of March" are; "Whipper Snapper Breakdown", "Wind Shifts", "Darwin's Circle", "Boatsman's Reel" "Broad Reach" and of course, "Glory Bound", which would be a great tune for a movie soundtrack.

It's obvious that plenty of thought and work has gone into crafting this CD; it's one of the most organized to come along in quite some time. The background and dedications on each of the tracks is a nice touch, along with the Key in the event you want to pick up your guitar or mandolin and play along.

Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of this CD and give it a listen. It's a welcome addition and an easy listen. Great driving music, just remember to keep your boot off the gas pedal as you keep time.

Mark Daly has really hit the mark with this CD. Every aspect from musicians to editing reveal his love of the mandolin and commitment to excellence. If you enjoy real music of any genre you will appreciate this album.
