5 out of 5 stars Her healing is our healing.......2005-02-16

I have just spent the last hour doing my emotional healing work to Ashes. It's something I do from time to time--get out the CD and allow it to take me through the grieving-releasing-healing paces. And no, what I've used it to heal from was not related to the specifics of what catalyzed her to write it--but the wounds of this world are universal--the pain of feeling separated from Spirit, and the healing process is the healing process is the healing process! The energy patterns involved in healing are universal and when we blaze a trail up and out, others can use that path to more easily find their way.

In our quest for sustainable Joy, there are times when you just need to clear out emotional stuff and sometimes you have no idea what that lump in the pit of your stomach is about--you just know that if you are to rise in frequency and reclaim Joy, you need for it to "liquefy" and flow on through. That was the case today, and I alternated between feeling huge grief to heart-leaping-up Joy in the process. Most of the time, I was crying--but all tears are not grief. We are always so close to Joy when we let the impediments to it go. When I finished my "session," I put on my favorite rocket-me-to-the-Joy-space music, and was able to feel the magic of full-fledged Joy for the first time in days. What a blessing!

Whenever we heal ourselves, we heal the world. Whenever we share our healing with the world as Cris has done, we bless all Creation. THANK YOU, Cris.

Some of her best work ever, honest, painful, healing.

5 out of 5 stars genre free music.......2001-12-01

I saw Chris play a small venue many years ago in Santa Cruz as part of a benefit for the Christic Institute (remember them?). I was about knocked out of my seat as much by her music as by her...being... I guess.

A few weeks ago, wandering through a music store, I decided to take a listen to her new CD. I must have stood there for a half hour. Bought the CD and it hasn't been out of the player since.

I'd characterize it as very musical without being overproduced. The production seems clean and true to the spirit of the compositions. I really love the way her musical stylings range all over the place.

My sister who is more aware of Chris explained all the autobiographical background. The CD plays just as well without knowing all of that and it somehow reduced the experience of the music for me. ... but that's probably just me...

Way to go Chris. So glad you're still out there lighting the world with your fugitive mind...

2 out of 5 stars Interesting, but lacking..........2001-12-01

While I really enjoyed "Cry, Cry, Cry" and I was speechless when I read the lyrics to "Ashes", I'm somewhat disappointed in this CD as a whole. It sounds just like most of her other cd's/albums; there's no variety. I could have been listening to any other cd. Bonnie Raitt was definitely a great person to work with and she certainly added a lot. I won't, however, be rushing out to buy my own copy. I'll wait for the next cd and see if it's any better.

1 out of 5 stars Paying for her therapy.......2001-11-30

Being a long time Cris fan, I went out and purchased this CD right away. Perhaps I should have waited for reviews. This album is nothing more than the weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth of a once so talented woman. The only two songs that hold any merit are "Cry, Cry, Cry" - and that is because Bonnie Raitt carries the song, and the acoustic song about letting the girl go. Well, it is time to let her go!
