5 out of 5 stars Postcards .......2005-11-02

On this CD, the Paperboys continue to play Celtic music while also experimenting with other styles, including Latin, and bluegrass. Overall, I don't like this one as much as Molinos, although I do love many of the songs on it. The opening track "Living Proof," is definetely my favorite Paperboys song and is possibly one of my favorite songs of all time. Both the melody and the lyrics are so uplifting. I particularly love the line "This road I'm on has led me astray, but I've got no regrets 'cause I paved it that way." Other favorite tracks include Falling Down, Still the Night, and Mary.

5 out of 5 stars Still the Night? Hardly........2001-05-08

Still the Night. Probably one of my favorite songs on the Paperboys' new track - Postcards. It hardly describes the Paperboys' standing in the world of Celtic pop/ Bluegrass. Talk to any Gaelic lover, and there's a 95% chance they'll recognize Tom Landa's name. It's easy to see why. Enigmatic lyrics, beautiful songs and all else one could ask for.

My advice - if you don't have it - get it.

5 out of 5 stars Postcards from the edge of Canada.......2000-12-15

I have eagerly awaited this new Paperboys release, and I am not disappointed. These boys (no offense, Shannon) are evolving quite nicely. Suddenly they're 21, 24, 32 and now 42... At last night's dog and pony show for "Postcards," they had us dancing non stop. If you aren't dancing to "Still the Night," alert the next of kin--he's dead. More insightful, soulful lyrics in Spanish, but don't skip over them, like, "Santiago a Sevilla." My favourite is "Triste Cancion". Find an English-Spanish dictionary if you must, but these songs, like on Molinos, transcend language barriers. There's a whole lotta love going on here. Bring in the banjo and Tom's distincive voice, and "Goodbye" has you thinking about lost loves, separation, growth. So this is where we are from being "In love for now." (One of my favourite Paperboys songs.) I like it. I like the idea of following the Paperboys through the years. Tell all your family and friends. These are our people. They "get it." Push the furniture to the walls and dance yourself silly with this Celtic, bluegrass, worldbeat, stompin rock n roll pop.

This band is IT. Slide guitar, banjo duels, Shannon plays and sings and uses a reindeer stuffed toy in ways you've never imagined. Tom sings and dances his heart out, his true soulmate Steve is equally amazing. Flute playing from heaven. Drive as far as you have to to see them in concert. Buy this one.

They ROCK. "Let us be thankful for what we have," they sang in the older song, "She said."

I am thankful to have The Paperboys on this earth. A new Paperboys CD--whooo hooo--everything IS going to be alright. -The Whoo Hooo girl from The Tractor 11/14

5 out of 5 stars A Musical World Tour.......2000-10-23

This is simply the finest CD in my collection. Tom Landa and his Paperboys (and girl!) cover the musical map with this inspired mix of tunes that range from Latin rhythms "Santiago A Sevilla" to Celtic melodies in "The Cop, The Scot" to high lonesome bluegrass on "Goodbye" to straight up pop on the opening track "Living Proof" and roots rocker "Mary". The Paperboys find the inherent connections in world music, and combine traditional instruments (fiddle, flutes, accordion) with modern sounds of guitar, bass, even drum loops. The fusion between styles is seamless, with superb song-writing at the heart of the album. This CD is a must for music lovers-and don't let the 3 songs in Spanish throw you off. Tom Landa's heart wrenching vocals convey the mood and feeling in any language.

4 out of 5 stars Intriguing and Excellent Celtic-Rock.......2000-09-19

To everyone who has never heard of the Paperboys, I must heartily recommend them. By blending beautiful melodies and lycirism from the Celtic tradition with a driving beat and rock sensibilities they have created a style all their own. In this latest album the Paperboys are moving further and further toward the mainstream. Tom Landa, the leader of the band, showcases some fine pop songwriting in 'Living Proof', 'Falling Down' and 'Mary'. The first track is a standout with some fabulous atmospheric flourishes provided by light additons to the melody. All in all a very enjoyable work and one that I could easily have given five stars. The only thing that took away from it for me were the three songs in Spanish- 'Santiago a Sevilla', 'Triste Cancion' and 'Cantares'. While these are still fine songs, I couldn't achieve the same emotional connection with them. Just a note to those new to the Paperboys- there are instrumental tracks on this album- 2,8, and 12. Altough they lack lyrics these tracks are played with feeling, emotion, and energy, like everything the Paperboys do. Overall- a great album!
