Customer Reviews:
A fusion classic with great compositions & awesome playing.......2003-10-12
I agree with the previous reviewer. This is one to put with the fusion classics. Imagine Jean-Luc Ponty meets Jeff Beck on speed pills & you'll have a rough idea of what this record is about. Killer virtuoso rock drums, Jaco/Hellborg level bass-playing, Ponty level violin courtesy of Sanders & of course, the lightning-speed McLaughlin level guitar-chops of John Etheridge, he of the forgotten Soft Machine classic "Softs." Great production & sound also, despite being a small-label obscure release from 1980. So, to all the fusion fans out there: SEEK THIS ONE OUT, it's an awesome album with top-quality compositions & worth the time spent. I waited four weeks to finally get my copy from Voiceprint records in Europe & I was not disappointed. If you see anyone selling it used at Amazon, grab it immediately.
2nd Vision...and the First Steps of new age.......2001-03-01
Cutting straight to the chase: BUY THIS ALBUM. Not that I expect many people to land up on the page of an album most people will never have even heard of. But for anyone who goes astray and does: you've struck gold! Anyone who likes the idea of Pat Metheny,Secret Garden and folk-rock mixed into one scintillating texture of sound, this is the only album you need ever buy. John Etheridge is a guitarist who sits comfortably between Alan Holdsworth, Larry Coryl and John McLaughlin. Ric Saunders was showing how to do it on the electric violin before Vanessa Mae was even a twinkle in the eye! Second Vision is just so good, I even want to buy it twice just for the joy of opening the amazon.com cardboard packaging. Go on, take a chance to enjoyen jazz/celtic/rock fusion at its very finest.
