Uplifting.......2004-12-01
Disappear Fear's music is both calming and uplifting at the same time. I especially enjoyed "Laws of Nature" because of it lyrics. (It has a gay-rights lyrics) Does anyone know which one of the singers is gay?
I would be quite greatful for the answer. If anyone knows, would you mind posting it under the reviews here? Thanx that would be great!!
Get a Voice.......2004-05-20
I heard this group at a Cafe-style club in New York a few years ago and purchased the CD. Didn't play it much, but now I do quite often. Generally the songs are interesting and contain good lyrics. I especially like Seed in the Sahara not so much because of it's lyrics, but more because of it's interesting structure.
But the lead singer could really uses some voice training. A little vibrato never hurt anyone.
Naive and Amateur - But Charming.......2000-09-24
I warmed-up to the acoustic folk of sisters Sonia Rutstein and Cindy Franks quickly. Seeds In The Sahara is catchy, popish and the vocal harmonies are a pleasant delight - and yes, they sound similar to the Indigo Girls. The acoustic focus and lean production of Seed In The Sahara is refreshing. I believe both Sonia and Cindy have chosen (What is the politically correct phrase this week?) "alternative life styles." Their message boarders on "The Big Statement": acceptance by and the barriers separating straights from alternatives. Like the music of Seed In The Sahara, the duo's message is delivered with tenderness: this isn't "in your face" feminism. `B.Y.O.G.-Bring You Own God' is both lonesome and uplifting, `Today Is Better' contains some clever vocal harmony tricks, and `Boxers' is a punchy acoustic rocker. The girls' lyrical talent is mixed. "I wear my sins like my most beautiful sweater" (Laws Of Nature) is an example of their crafty poetry; on the other hand, "What I'm looking for is true community" (Seed In The Sahara) is trite. Seed In The Sahara is a bit naive and amateur - I find Disappear Fear's imperfections a charming alternative to the Top-100.
