Customer Reviews:
Sweet.......2006-02-16
I had listened to Ostroushko's Sacred Heart CD, and had read the other positive reviews, so I dared to buy this one, but was completely disappointed. The voice is mediocre, and the texts are much to sweetish. Also the melodies are quite uninspired.
In my opinion, Peter Ostroushko should stick to instrumentals, I do like his fiddling and mandolin playing.
O Brother, Where Art Thou?.......2002-04-08
This is Peter Ostroushko's most "O Brother, Where Art Thou?"-like CD, other than his new CD with Norman Blake, "Meeting on Southern Soil". "Sacred Heart" is my favorite out of the trilogy, but this is the CD you want out of the "Pilgrims of the Heart Road", "Heart of the Heartland", "Sacred Heart" trilogy if you demand singing. "The Blue Mesa" CD has some good singing tracks with Norman Blake on it too. I tend to prefer the picking-style of Dean MaGraw on guitar and the cello of Diane Tremaine--but that is just my preference.
I Listen Again and Again.......1998-10-12
I was introduced to Peter Ostroushko live at a Ukrainian-American event, and I was blown away by the beauty of his music and the depth of his lyrics. I purchase Heart of the Heartland then, and I love it, but I think Pilgrims on the Heart Road, which I purchased more recently, is better. The song Down on the Plain of Reeds moves me almost to tears every time I listen to it. Ostroushko manages to be spiritual without being sappy, and write beautiful music without it seeming "made for TV" or trite.
