A Man Ahead AND Behind Of The Times.......2006-06-22
Aeungus Finnan is the most dedicated musician i have met to date. His music is passionate, and tells stories in such an uplifting and sometimes downtrodden way that you cannot help but be pulled in, and before you realise it, the cd is over, and you've hit the play button one more time.
I first met aengus because of our Choir. Our Drama Teacher is his Sister, and we performed one of his songs in the festival of gold championships. the song was called "my heart has wings". this song seemed impossibly difficult to sing and was a very large amount different from his CD version, even still he took us under his wing as a sort, and he sang the song with us for a benefit concert, and he also played songs from both albums, fools gold and north wind along with some of our choir members. even sitting in the fifth row in our poor acoustic cafeteria, you could hear the power in his voice and his guitar. this man is a testament to all folk writers, and isn't getting his due credit. buy this album. in fact buy three, send them to your loved ones. it's worth it.
Awesome voice and lyrics.......2006-02-28
I first saw Aengus at a folk festival in Indiana. He and the guys backing him up sang "Swing Boys Swing" and it was amazing. He sang alot of the songs from North Wind. He and this album are great! In person he is even more moving. His voice just grips you and pulls you into whatever story the song is about and you can't turn away.
It does no justice.......2004-07-05
I have seen Aengus in concert, at a charity festival in Lakefield ON. I picked up his CD as soon as I could. It is brilliance at its finest. He sings stories that pull the listener into a world of his own making and, for a few songs, a world that he has created himself. He is a true songwriter and singer and does not have the publicity he deserves. The CD does him no justice for his live act, a guitar and a bass, but it is none the less a wonderful album, with vocal harmony shanty songs, to beautiful laments. Pick it up; it is by far worth it.
I'd give it 15 if I could.......2003-12-03
I *discovered* this songwriter on Beautiful, the Gordon Lightfoot Tribute CD. This is what folk music is SUPPOSED to be, the music/story of people! I have been playing it constantly since I received it. If I had to pick favorites, it would have to be a tied betwee Apple Blossom Tyme/Lost Jimmy Whalen/O'Shaughnessy's Lament/almost every other song on it.
He will have to live for a long time, to be as old as his voice and his beautiful poet's soul.
I recommend it. I sure hope I can see him in concert, one of these days.
Found It By Chance.......2003-09-27
I was browsing for some new music, liked the title and cover photo, and bought the album. What a find! I like music that tells a story, has a good melody and clean sound, and this one has all three. Don't stop here, get Aengus Finnan's first album "fool's gold" too. I can't decide which I enjoy more, and it doesn't really matter because I have them both. You should too.
