Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Cross this Border to a great Al Stewart selection.......2005-01-30

Here we have a compilation of some energetic Al Stewart songs that would enhance any fan's appreciation. "On The Border" contains some songs that are not on the co-issued "Greatest Hits" and present more of the Avant-Garde of his work. Al stated at a recent concert (Jan 2005 in Bryn Mawr, Pa.) that he is considered a "HISTORICAL FOLK SINGER" at home in England and that he generally does not write songs about love. His one hit in the US, "Year of the Cat" does not really give you that "folk" idea and you need albums like "Border" to give you a more rounded impression of the true nature of his work. Fans will be delighted with this album which includes material from previous releases and a few that you may not have heard before. Al is working with Dave Nachmanoff these days and even though Al is pushing his late 50's now he is still a great entertainer. A new album is due out soon and I was lucky to hear a few of his new unpublished tunes, some of which will be about wine! Consider this album as a "STAY TUNED" CD..more to come!

3 out of 5 stars CAT REVIEW.......2000-06-19

AL STEWART WAS ONE OF THE FIRST ARTIST TO BLEND JAZZ, POP, AND CLASSICAL MUSIC INTO ONE AND PROVIDE AUDIENCES WITH A RANGE OF TASTE A STYLE OF MUSIC THAT IS UNIQUE AND SOOTHING BUT RETAINS THE 70'S POP CULTURE THAT BRINGS PEOPLE BACK TO WHAT IS REMEMBERED AS A QUITER TIME.
