Customer Reviews:
I love it!.......2001-10-10
Wow, she did it again! If you don't own this or Kimberly's other CDs, get them right away! They are all must-haves for your collection.
Kimberly's songs let you into her soul to see the beautiful person that she is. It is a wonderful journey.
Don't miss out on this CD and also "Inherited Road" and "Breathe the Moonlight." I have just about worn out these two CDs and I can see from listening to CTDL that it will be the same for this one!
Also, if you get a chance, definitely go to one of her live shows. This is where she really shines. ...
Get a Cross The Danger Line.......2001-09-20
I've been a fan of Guy Clark, Clarence Talley, John Hartford and Nancy Griffith since "back then". They are my heroes. They are the artists. They paint word pictures that you can see in your head when you listen. Kimberly's first song was Cassidy Jane, on the "Inherited Road" album. She wrote it for piano. I saw the 'woolen shawls and midnight brawls and wine" and for a moment I lived in the times of Cassidy Jane. The times and places and people have changed on "Cross The Danger Line" and the stroke of Kimberly's brush has wizened and matured. And, the gift of the story-teller, the ability to "take you there" has become as sure as "Death And Texas" and she has surely become a hero of mine.
Yet Another Amazing Release from Kimberly M'Carver.......2001-09-13
Living in Houston, I've been mezmerized by Kimberly's music from the days she first started performing in town. Now, her third CD is just hitting the streets (I got mine at a recent live show) and it is, amazingly enough, even better than the first two (Breathe the Moonlight & Inherited Road). Kimberly's songwriting has no superior, being simultaneously emotive, profound, thought-provoking, and simply beautiful. Her yarns are spun with fabric guaranteed to whisk the listener away in pure flights of wonderful fancy. Her music spans the widest array of styles, from straightforward folk/Americana through bluegrass and country to Latin - each song having a style uniquely suited to bring out its inherent character and beauty. Down here we remember such collective diversity as simply "Texas Border" music and revel in the complete practitioner who can in fact pull it off as seamlessly and effortlessly as Kimberly does here. Interestingly, the musicianship on "Cross the Dangerline" is far more diverse than her previous releases, including haunting violins, punchy percussion and electric strings, as well as soothingly expressive acoustic instruments. Again, all her arrangements seem optimally chosen to bring out the full quality of each piece. Now, I've saved the best for last. Standing at once, above - yet completely immersed within - the music is Kimberly's astounding soprano. A voice so clear and expressive that it hypnotizes the listener, while effortlessly transporting him to another place and time, another adventure, another love, another lifetime. My only regret is that Kimberly has not cut more CDs over the recent past, but what we have lost in quantity we certainly make up many times over in her quality. This CD is a true MUST for anyone appreciative of all the beauty that music can in fact be.
