Customer Reviews:
Mellow, Gentle, and Excellent.......2002-06-17
I found out about the Battlefield Band by doing a random search on Amazon. And this was their first album I bought -- for no particular reason. It was an excellent choice. It's not as energetic as some of their other work, as they use mostly the fiddle, whistles, and even a harp on slow, soothing songs. The pace does pick up, however, with the last four pieces.
My personal favorites are #1, 2, 5, 6, 8, 9, and 12 - 15. Track 14 was quite an unexpected treat. It starts off in the traditional country style, but after about 3 minutes it goes Scottish country. I love the bluegrass bagpipes!
This album is a great introduction to the band with music that will never get old. It's not quite representative of their current style, but it is no doubt worth buying.
magnificent.......1998-09-21
This cd was my first full introduction to Battlefield Band, and man-alive, I was hooked within a couple of minutes. Deeply rooted in Scottish tradition (and Irish, as well), the lads even manage to do an American country standard better than the original. This record shows the band's energy and strengths in marvelous fashion and ends it all with the rousing Top Tier set. Amazing.
Traditional Celtic music mixed with modern technology.......1998-06-20
As an avid fan of the group for the past 17 yrs, I've seen them transition through different members, but still keeping alive their particular style and flavor. This is the last recording of the group before another major transition took place and is an excellent example of their ability to combine traditional music with modern technology.
