4 out of 5 stars Long Time Ago.......2006-03-29

Thats me playing guitar on the Ronstadt cuts. I was part of her band Swampwater. It was friggin freezing out when we recorded that performance at night, right off the Pacific Ocean. As a result we were all out of tune...but all in all a great performance by Linda and everyone else. And to the guy above who says we sounded like we were "out of Nashville", Ill have him know that we were fresh from Hollywood Cal. Shows what an expert HE is.
I was right by the side of the Beach Boys when they played. They had extra musicians backstage playing with them. Still, they were very good.
It was a fun concert to be in. We had even more fun back at the hotel. Ahhh, fun times. This CD is a good snapshot of the day.

3 out of 5 stars Where's Taj?.......2006-03-01

Mostly first-rate performances, particularly for fans of Joan Baez and the other artists, but the real highlight of the original LP was Taj Mahal's great performances of "Corinna" and especially "Ain't Nobody's Business But My Own," both of which are inexplicably excluded from this reissue.

4 out of 5 stars Great collection of folk.......2002-03-13

Shuffling through my dad's old LP collection, I came across this Celebration album and listened to it. I immediately fell in love with the different artists' versions of Let it Be and Birdge Over Troubled Water. After listening to a scratchy LP for years, I've decided to purchase it on CD. Any folk lover like myself will love this album!

3 out of 5 stars Less than I expected........2000-09-27

All right, it's partially my fault. I was listening to Beach Boys, was very much in a Beach Boys mood, saw this on Amazon.com, and purchased it, assuming "Beach Boys, et al," not "et al with one Beach Boys tune."

Sorry to you folk fans, but I'm not into Joan Baez all that much. And I'm not so nostalgically inclined--and have been to Big Sur only once--so there's limited appeal to me. Joan's got a great voice, though I got sick of "Dixie" a long time ago; Linda Rondstadt sounds almost out of Nashville; and Kristofferson's tunes made my colleagues ask me when I was going to the truckstop for dinner. Country Joe and Merry Clayton. Yeah, if I must.

Were I folk or folk/rock fan, I'd probably doing cartwheels. In that sense, "Wouldn't It Be Nice" by the Beach Boys is out of place on the album--like, say, Dylan doing a guest appearance on Lawrence Welk.

For those who are fans of that genre, you'll probably program your CD players to slide by the Boys.

Oh, well. I'll give it to my wife, who'll listen to Joan over and over...
