Customer Reviews:
A wonderful body of music.......2003-04-16
For five years, I have been a member of the Appalachian Children's Chorus (WV), and each year, we have sung a Malcolm song. This year, since he is actually coming to sing with us, we are singing multiple works, but I just have to say that some of the most memorable songs we have performed over the last handful of years have been "Sail Away", "Reel a Bouche", etc. They are great songs and I urge any music or choir fan to order this album.
Wow!.......2000-06-08
My interest in hammer dulcimer music began about 5 years ago when I had the rare privelege of performing in the Australian premiere of Malcolm Dalglish's Hymnody of Earth when Malcolm was visiting here in 1995. My passion was reignited in April this year when I was invited to sing it again, and I knew after that peformance that I would never be able to get enough of this music. I went and ordered Pleasure without hesitation, and I have not been disappointed. The sounds on this CD take me to places that I would never have been had I not heard this music. The music fills you with joy; the words are poignant and inspiring. The voices are mature and enchanting, and the hammer dulcimer is magical. Lovers of traditional choral music: forget everything you have ever learned and you will love this CD.
Sheer Delight -- Totally Refreshing!.......2000-05-08
I have been a fan of Dalglish's music since I bought my first copy of the first Metamora album (on vinyl) many years ago. I have since purchased that particular album on cassette and CD for myself and as gifts, as well as all of Dalglish/Metamora's available albums.
His hammered dulcimer sparkles, as usual, on this wonderful disc, and all of the instrumentals are beautifully played, but it is the quality of the singing that elevates my soul to heights that I always hope to attain through music, but seldom see. The songs are lush arrangements of popular (and not-so-popular) folk songs as well as new creations by Mr. Dalglish. All of them are wonderful and exhilarating to listen to. There is a lightness to the musical arrangements which has to be heard to be appreciated. I cannot praise this disc too highly.
If you like hammered dulcimer music, or folk music, or choral music, or just music, you really ought to try this one out. I am (as soon as I finish this review) going to order the companion disc, "Hymnody of Earth," as well as a couple more of this one to give as gifts to special friends.
This CD sweeps you away into a place of pure joy........1999-04-19
Malcolm Dalglish and the Ooolites' Pleasure CD is incredible! A masterpiece of refreshing voices and beautiful dulcimer accompaniment. Every time I listen to it I am filled with inspiration. This CD lifts the spirit. I started singing along by the second listening of it.
