Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars do yourself a favor and buy this CD.......2006-12-20

Merrie Amsterburg is one of those songwriters that shines brighter than most but doesn't get those well deserved accolades. While Little Steps and Clementine are wonderful releases on their own, Season of Rain will blow you away. I could never find the words to describe the beauty and power inherent in these songs, so do yourself a favor and buy the CD. And Merrie, I sure hope that you keep recording. The world needs to hear your voice.

5 out of 5 stars Delightful Find!.......2005-07-01

Following an Amazon list recommendation I stumbled across this unknown artist.... and like a pearl laying quietly on the ocean bottom I found this a rare and wonderful creation.

The singing is gentle, soothing and understated, the instrumentation the same but a bit more exquisite, the lyrics are deceptive and abstract seeming, the whole production is tight, and relaxing.

For months I'd been casually listening to this CD (wondering what it was about), then today I read the liner notes for the first time and it hit me with full force... the tragic personal loss, the meditations on life after life, the loving dedication...and it blew me away - both from the depth of feeling, and the subtle manner it is delivered with (soothing interesting adult pop tunes carrying an intensly sad story, with Merrie singing a bit like Aimee Mann or a mellow Kate Bush and writing songs like Lucinda Williams).

This is deep and satisfying art. Merrie deserves to be way better known!

5 out of 5 stars Great Stuff.......2005-01-15

There was another review here that said she 'couldn't stop listening to this album' and I found that I have the same feeling. I discovered Merrie Amsterburg from a compilation cd that included her cover of The Police's "Walking On The Moon." When I bought the cd, though, I found that nearly every track is good. This is one of the few albums I can listen to all the way through without skipping a track. There's something haunting and beautiful about her soulful voice. I've recommended it to all my friends.

5 out of 5 stars Simply Put - An Undiscovered Masterpiece.......2003-10-20

The vagaries of life and the music industry that have kept Merrie Amsterburg from touring more extensively and landing a major label record deal are to be regretted. For absent those things, you might know what music fans and "industry people" in the Boston area know -- this album is one of the very best collections of songs recorded by anyone, anywhere in the past 20 years.

"Season of Rain", perhaps more than anything else, is a meditation on loss. The production, the musicianship, the singing all work and all serve the ultimate end -- the SONGS.

This album is often soft, it is subtle and often eloquent in its simplicity. Don't let that fool you, these songs are as powerful as they come.

5 out of 5 stars Incredible.......2003-02-22

Heartfelt and real - you can't help but be moved by this music. It will touch your soul.
