4 out of 5 stars Made for Motivation.......2007-01-09

Was hesitant on buying this CD because of people squaking at the poor quality in the sound. I have the album, yes album and the sound was not the best in the first place but it is not that bad either. This CD is great! When I am looking for an upbeat CD I put this on. I was a disco DJ when disco was in it's hayday and although I never played this for dancing it was still one of my favorites. I played this CD when my daughter was home and when she heard it she was pumped and wanted to hear her favorite tracks. One of the most unique albums to come from the disco era.

1 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE ALL-TIME WORST DISCO RECORDINGS EVER!.......2006-07-08

Textbook example of the kind of stuff that gave disco a bad name (and I'm a disco fan). Strictly for flamers.

1 out of 5 stars Collectables Owes Us An Apology!.......2005-07-08

Usually, when a CD is issued by Collectables you can expect a great sounding blast from the past with old hits, LPs and two-fers one never expected to find on CD. This is not the case with Disco Tex and his infamous Sex-O-Lettes. I was both disappointed and angry at the quality of this CD. Whoever mixed this CD should never work in the business again. It is absolutely one of the most horrible sounding CDs I've heard. I am not rating the music on the CD 1 star. I am rating the CD quality 1 star. Was this the best music of the 70s? By no means was it that great! Was it even the best disco? NO! But, was it among the most fun? Absolutely, yes! So, I was anxious to play the CD and was so disappointed when it was, literally, painful to the ears. My old 45s have better sound quality. I'm so glad I still have them. What was Collectables thinking to release such a piece of pop culture history with such terrible mixing. For those who remember the original recordings, you'll remember the audience applause and interaction in the background of some of the songs. It has been mixed on this CD in such as way that the audience background overpowers the music. Sometimes, that is all you hear. There is absolutely no bass. It sounds almost as if it is coming from an old transistor radio - very tinny sounding and piercing to the ears because the high end is so distorted. Collectables made some fun piece of history sound like trash. Anyone who was not familiar with the original sound of these recordings will wonder what we were thinking to have put "Get Dancin'" and "I Wanna Dance Wit' Choo" on the top of the charts. Shame on Collectables! If you can find this on a near mint or VG+ LP, buy it in that format. Please, do not buy this CD. I wish I would have heeded the warnings of the other reviewers who gave this CD a bad rating because of the sound quality.

5 out of 5 stars Very Different.......2005-03-26

It's been 30+ years since I first heard any music from this album and it's still one of my favorites. Understand, I typically like hard rock, lots of guitars, etc. But I also appreciate crafty writing and unique sounds. It's the best music to come out of the disco era.

I would have to consider this music a kind of cult favorite. There are those of us who have listened to it a few times and fell in love with it. It may not be for everyone.

The songs are different in a way that Led Zeppelin's "Kashmir" is different, or "If You Want Me To Stay" by Sly and the Family Stone. It's hard to describe why they're so different, they just are.

It's enough to say that everyone who rated this CD liked the music, but the quality leaves a lot to be desired. I wouldn't really have minded if it was recorded in mono - it's just good to hear these songs again.

4 out of 5 stars THE BEST EVER TO COME OUT OF THE DISCO ERA........2005-01-04

This is the most fun music to have come out of the disco scene, with the mad over-the-top camp Tex, superb arrangement and the best backing group I have ever heard. It was deliberately made to sound like a live club recording, so comments that the recording quality is poor are missing the point. It is just a pleasure to hear "Get Dancin" again.
