A Great Mix of 90s Songs, but Its More Fun Unmixed.......2006-03-28

DISC 1

1. DJ Miko - What's Up ... A
Great cover which is probably the most memorable. Great music, great vocals, great song.
2. Real McCoy - Runaway ... A-
Unbearably catchy.
3. Dr. Alban - It's My Life ... B+
Weird rap but a good song otherwise.
4. K7 - Come Baby Come ... C
Never understood why this song was liked so much; it's horribly annoying, if catchy.
5. Technotronic - Move This ... A-
Oh come on, you know this, and it's extremely catchy.
6. M People - Movin' On Up ... B+
Not an amazing song, but the vocals of Heather Small are amazing.
7. Cathy Dennis - Touch Me All Night Long ... B-
Pretty annoying, but decent I guess.
8. Fun Factory - I Wanna B With U ... A-
The beginning is horribly strange (the "Now...it's time to enter the dimension of Fun Factory"), but the song is pretty good. It has a good vibe and the vocalist is pretty good.
9. Bizarre Inc. - I'm Gonna Get You ... A-
Extremely catchy.
10. Amber - This Is Your Night ... B+
Amber's breakout hit, and much better than her newer singles (she was good in the 90s, her new stuff just can't beat it).
11. Robin S. - It Must Be Love ... C+
This proves that she was a one hit wonder with "Show Me Love", but she is a good vocalist. But this song is way too mediocre to do anything for me.
12. Salt 'N' Pepa - Let's Talk About Sex ... B+
A different version than the one on Dance Mix USA and their album "Black Magic", but this is better. Less catchy without the chorus, but a lot dirtier.

DISC 2

1. Ultra Nate - Free ... A-
Her best song. This feel-good song is quite catchy and overall amazing.
2. CeCe Peniston - Finally ... B
Decent, but nothing beyond that.
3. Ruffneck Feat. Yavahn - Everybody Be Somebody ... B-
It's only good when Yavahn is singing, but even then, this is horribly mediocre.
4. C+C Music Factory - Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now) ... A
I don't need to say anything about this song, because you know it, I know it, and it's really good.
5. Montell Jordan - This Is How We Do It ... C-
Horrible.
6. Love Trible - Stand Up ... A-
Addictingly catchy.
7. Funky Green Dogs - Fired Up! ... B+
Cool.
8. Full Intention - America (I Love America) ... A-
A pumping song which might as well be the introduction to trance. This could use a drawn-out club mix. Badly.
9. Junior Vasquez - If Madonna Calls (I'm Not Here) ... C+
Funny, but the only good version of this song is the Vasquez House Mix on Club Mix 97.
10. LeClick - Tonight Is the Night ... B+
Pretty good.
11. Double You - Please Don't Go ... A-
Extremely cheesy, but good vocals. Just be warned - it's almost 6 minutes of repeating "Please don't go...please don't go..." and it can get REALLY repetitive. I'm not kidding.

So, this is overall a pretty good mix of 90s songs, some good, some mediocre, and some bad. I would not suggest buying this album, however, because you can find the majority of these songs on other compilations, unmixed. It's fun playing this CD at parties, but listening to these songs is only fun unmixed.

Better than the first "Best of" but still somewhat shoddy.......2004-04-14

The first "Best of" compilation of this awesome dance music series was in my opinion, the most poorly assembled dance compilation that I've ever bought. I thought they ruined the songs by the massive butchering of the songs on that album and the whole thing doesn't hold together at all.

This second "Best of" collection is a minor improvement over the first one and in places, the songs in fact transition into the next a lot better than they did on the first collection. For example, I actually love teh way "Moving On Up" merges into the legendary dance classic "Touch Me ALL Night Long" by Cathy Dennis. The latter song is also different in a way because the version on here is slightly sped up. "Touch Me All Night Long" is in my opinion one of the greatest dance songs ever made and after so many years after first dancing to it on the radio as a kid in the early 90s, this song still has the power to move you.

Keep in mind that the version on it's parent album "Move To This" is very different and has a funkier beat but every bit as great as the well-known dance version that is heard on the radio. I strongly urge you to purchase Dennis' "Move To This" album because it is unbelievably powerful and fun.

This "Best of Volume 2" collection also suffers from awkward song flow but thankfully, this problem is nowhere near as severe as the first and this album survives the inconsistency where as it destroyed an already lousy "Best of Volume 1" collection.

I'm not saying that this is to be left alone to collect dust on the shelves but there isn't a whole lot to be excited about buying this collection. If you don't have any of the regular volumes from the first through the 1999 outings, then this is a very good start. For those like me who already have these songs on the first six entries in the series, there isn't a lot of need for this.

Still, this is a much better assembled compilation than the first which surely is collecting dust on the shelves in my closet.

I'm buying this set for the second time especially for the following three songs Stand Up, America, and If Madonna Calls. To me those three songs are worth paying for the set again. Music is like anything else. It's rare that you will buy music and like even one song let alone three or more.

It's OK, I just wish they had listed that it was a D.J. mix and some of the songs run into each other, of course it is an ok CD for parties and working out but I still would love to find a dance CD where their are gaps between the tracks and the songs don't run into each other and I wish it had more of my favorite dance hits besides What's Up, from D.J. Miko, some of the other dance songs are ok but they aren't my favorites and I'm still looking for that perfect dance collection!

This is a cool CD, it's the best for partys! I especially love Whats up, Run away, It's my life, Move this, This is your night, Everybody dance now and Tonight is the night. Buy this!
