2 out of 5 stars Much Less Than Exhilerating.......2003-01-24

San Francisco is known to be the hub of the West Coast Rave scene, representing a notable portion of the DJ's that trek about the west. Now, coming straight out of San Francisco is the musical duo Mephisto Odyssey, with their newest release The Lift EP. Mephisto Odyssey is a group of four DJ's that have grown from out of the dance underground, and now producing with big labels with Warner Brothers. The Lift EP is, they claim, closes the final chapter the progression from their San Francisco productions.

The Lift EP welcomes a few guests for some special remixes. The infamous DJ Dan who is known for his a building cult following has a remix of Mephisto's "Flow." Tony and Onionz also contribute a remix of "Funk N' Paris." There is also a superb mix of "The Lift" performed by Orpheos.

Even though The Lift EP does contain a few excellent tracks like the few I just mentioned, the album is a whole is actually rather bland. It is weighed down by repetitive and uninspiring techno trash. The artist did a great job building some great rhythms, but forgot a few important things, namely, melody and structure. It is rather unfortunate. The album seemed to hold some real promise at points, but nothing could make up for the exhausting drain so many of the tracks presented.

5 out of 5 stars "The Lift" Fantastic Vocals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2000-09-01

I was in a night club in San Francisco Ca. when I heard the title track "the lift" off "The Lift EP"

The vocals were amazing!!!! That girl can really sing!!! The song had a fantastic beat and the club was jumping. I had to go and ask the DJ who the vocalist was and what the name of the album was. The vocalist Maria Johnston was a solo artist on the song. the mix of vocals with special effects is the best example of a techno/house/dance I have ever heard. With a bit of an exotic feel on the middle eastern tip and several FAT layers of the DIVA's vocals make this EP a must buy. On the dance floor the Vocals dance and swirl around you, wrapping you in a blanket of euphoria!!!!!!!!!! LOOK OUT " THE CRYSTAL METHOD" Here comes MEPHISTO ODYSSEY!!!

If you don't buy it you are missing out!!!
