1 out of 5 stars dissapionting from cam.......2003-05-22

if you like cam and his work then don't buy this!! Its terrible just regular rap hip hop with only one or two songs recieving the cam touch! very dissapionted with this cd!

2 out of 5 stars This Is a Rap Album: BLAH.......2002-03-22

Having been spoiled by first hearing DJ Cam's awesome "Mad Blunted Jazz," album this CD was complete disappointment. Although you can hear traces of DJ Cam's skill in the background, horrible rap vocals destroy the whole mood. This CD is a loser.

2 out of 5 stars Too much rap, not enough Cam.......2001-07-26

For fans of his early work (most notably "Mad Blunted Jazz", now classic), this record may seem like a bit of a sellout on his DJ+trip-hop stylings. However, if you track his work from project to project (compilation appearances included), you could probably see this project coming a mile away. Half of the record features rappers (of varying qualities), which is NOT what you've been coming to Cam for, but hey, a guy's allowed to branch out a little bit, right?

Well, only if it's good stuff. This record has me torn down the middle. On one hand, there's some good instrumental tracks. Not many, but a few. Then, there's a couple of decent beats and soundscapes marred by rapping we can get anywhere, which is grating. I come to Cam for instrumental work mostly, and this album really just came off like an attempt (much like his stylistically schizophrenic Loa Projects) to show the industry that he can do other types of stuff too, and hey, "send me some producing jobs!"

If you're interested in trying Cam out, go with "Mad Blunted Jazz", then buy anything else you MIGHT be interested in used, if at all. If I wanted a rap record, I wouldn't have picked it up at all.

3 out of 5 stars Good Rap Album.......2000-08-24

So Beat Assassinated is definetly NOT Cam's best stuff, see "Mad Blunted Jazz" for that, but this is surely an album u can bob your head to. The rappers are on this album are some of the best I've heard, listen for Channel Live especially. There's even one track where the guy or guys change their voices from hard to soft so smoothly, its just so phat. I would get this album if you like good rap along with Cam's beats in the backgroud. As a rap album, I'd put it at just one notch below Dj Honda's "Honda II". It's more along the lines of Dj Krush's "Milight" or "Meiso" and Dj Vadim's "U.S.S.R.: Life From the Other Side". To go further, there's a track rapped by some French dude which is pretty cool to listen to, and there's a jungle/house (acid house?) track at the end thats pretty phat. Cam rarely does the "club" bit, but the last track is kinda like his way of saying "i could do that too".
