Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars This cd was awesome.......2002-12-28

This cd has some great music on it, it's definetly worth a listen. I haven't heard the originals, so I can't say I know what exactly was done to them, but even if DJ Andy only picked them out and crossfaded one to the next (I know he did more than that, but this is for examples sake), I'd still give him props for pickin' out some phat tracks and layin' 'em down in good order.

5 out of 5 stars Mad mix of tunes from a truly talented mixer.......2001-08-01

For me, this CD plays like my favorite mix tape - but better. Seeing this guy live is pretty incredible too!!! He went from classic dub to Jimi Hendrix to Hip Hop to Northern Soul in less than 20 minutes!!! It's a favorite CD of mine that never fails to get people in the room asking what the heck it is. Not likely to appeal to people who don't like a broad range of music, or people with cloth ears in general like Jameson Fink up above there. Respect the fact you have an opinion man, but there's no excuse for uneducated ignorance. If you listened to the thing properly, you might have noticed that he actually does more than just fade the songs in and out - but then again I don't expect you have heard most of these songs before anyhow - right???

5 out of 5 stars Insane!.......2001-05-18

it takes a skilled, insane man to be able to gather, blend, and mix these tracks together all so seamlessly and yet make you stand at attention and LISTEN WHILE SHAKIN' your money maker. damn! now, i'm sorry i missed him when he passed through town last week. who would've thought? portishead and funky breaks and beats? next only to norman cook (or perhaps had in hand with norman) this man is able to make disparate sounds come together. i mean, come on! peggy lee and grandmaster flash holding court together in one disc? buy this album if you're looking to be arrested by a plethora of sounds.

4 out of 5 stars Subtle Scratches, yes..........2001-01-14

Not Rhettmatic etal. ... all the same this album seems to come together around a single groove... a flow... andy smith follows a path of rythyms that leads from jaru to tom jones... too cool... a great intro to some old style and to despite mr. fink the scratches and sampling are way beyond what passes for real dj skills... as good as future primitive #1... go ahead... a document

2 out of 5 stars Just a collections of songs..........2000-12-05

Albiet a decent one. This is basically a mix tape of songs that are in no way mixed up. No cuts, no scratched. Songs just fade away and then a new one starts. It's hard to figure how this guy is a DJ. The songs are cool, but who wants the James Gang? Not a bad introduction to some classic hip hop and artists that have been plundered for samples (like the Meters). This is what happens when you are portishead-obsessed and want to buy anything/everthing Portishead related.
