Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Before Flex Went Corporate Pt. II {4 Stars}.......2006-09-10

Why Flex calls his albums 60 minutes of funk when they're more like 72 minutes of funk is beyond me. Not that it's a bad thing though, Flex brings the noise on this album. There are plenty of bangers and club rockers on this album. It has a lot more meat to dig into this time around. His first album was good, but there was a severe drop off toward the end of that album. Flex does a great job of blending, scratching, and juggling on Volume 2. Jay Z freestyles, DJ Kool snippets, classic old school rap, it's all there for the taking on this LP.

The first problem I have with this album is the use of 70's funk. I'm as big a fan as anyone of classics like "Flashlight", "Outstanding", and "Rising To The Top", but they stuck out like sore thumbs. Simply put, they didn't fit on the album....and he didn't blend them very well either. Secondly, whoever told Mary J. Blige she could rap should be tied up and forced to listen to her horrid rapping for a month straight. Also, if you're looking for the 12" version of the classic "No Joke/Follow Me" (which is mixed and scratched 20 times better than the album version), then look elsewhere, it's not included on this album. I actually bought the single on wax before I bought this album and I remember being thoroughly disappointed. The rest of the album is pretty tight though.

The Mixtape Volume II: 60 Minutes Of Funk is the last great Funkmaster Flex album. Volume III is good, but it's where Flex starts to lose his street appeal and aims for the mass appeal. If you want to hear some dope stuff from back when Flex still had his ear to the street, then check this and Volume I out. Two thumbs up from this listener.

Standout Tracks: Boot Camp Clik Freestyle (My Favorite), Back To Like (However Do You Want Me), Clear My Throat, Nas Freestyle, No Joke/Follow Me, Sucker MC's, Tour, Jay Z Freestyle, Relax & Party, Puff Daddy & Mase Freestyle, Lil' Kim Freestyle, I'm Not Feeling You, and Lady Saw Freestyle

5 out of 5 stars This CD Is Hot.......2001-06-06

Me being a DJ myself this is probably one of the most impressive cds i have heard in a while. With flex you can always count on him beacsue hes got the beats and the top rap stars to make this cd a hit. it has like 45 tracks mosstietly freestyle but thats aight still got a t least 82 minutes of audio. so get this cd or any other funkmaster flex cd. Mix tape volume 4 is the best.

3 out of 5 stars It's alright..........2000-06-13

The beats are alright but their nothing compared to the newest CD, The Tunnel. Most of the songs are alright, the best being the Busta Rhymes song.
