Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars great late night music from iceland........2007-02-09

iceland. sounds exotic. sounds beautiful. this is a great recording from that place. gorgeous melodies linger about the room when i play this disc. it's a perfect nighttime cd, mysterious sounding and haunting. the vocals enchant. I could never vomit listening to this music; it makes me feel too good. buy it for nights like heaven.

3 out of 5 stars very interesting sound, but not quite my style.......2007-01-05

a good sound, a couple stand-out tracks but didn't impress me too much.

5 out of 5 stars Worth it's weight in gold.......2006-03-15

This album could possibly be one of the best albums I own. It's in my top 10 albums of all time. I heard the song 'We have a map of the piano' on MySpace and had to get the album. I was blown away by how well the songs were put together and the sounds Mum experimented with.

My husband liked it too, and he is one tough cookie when it comes to experimental music. (He's british and likes 80's Brit music)

I can honestly say that Iceland produced a fine band in Mum, and they, like Bjork, are worth their weight in gold.

4 out of 5 stars Spooky but accessible.......2006-01-17

Without a doubt their best CD. This is really creative stuff and conjures up these wonderful otherworldy places in your head. At times the music is similar to Four Tet, but I would say it is a little more accessible with a more consistent pace.

I've been listening to a lot of instrumental stuff recently (Advokat, Icebreaker, The Orb) and this one is definitely up there. It's really spooky in places but with catchy melodies.

4 out of 5 stars Great. Some songs are to be skipped though........2005-11-27

I'm a big Photoshop fanatic, and while I'm working, I'm usually listening to some music. Until I bought Mum's masterpiece, 'Finally We Are No One', I wass usually listening to Fischerspooner's 'Odyssey' or Rush's 'Moving Pictures'. Now, as good as these albums are, they're not exactly "working" music. They're filled with hard guitars, pulsing keyboards and intense vocals (especially Rush). Mum seemed to work quite the opposite way. And that is good.

I usually skip Green Grass of Tunnel for some odd reason. The chimes in the beginning are very soothing, but the ethnic synths kind of ruin the mood for me. The violin is great as well, as are the 'rag doll vocals', as one reviewer put it. The next song, 'We Have A Map Of The Piano', is my favorite Photoshopping song. Ever since I got into Gorillaz, I've loved the vinyl sound of the drumbeats. Mum's 'Map Of The Piano' features this, accompanied by soothing piano chords and a bassline to die for. Once the twins start singing, you wish you could fall asleep.

The album isn't just ambient stuff; it's much more than that. The album gets dancey at 'Don't Be Afraid, You Have Just Got Your Eyes Closed' with bubbling synths and a great drumbeat that seems like it was taken out of a Daft Punk meets Air record. Halfway through the song, chimes enter the song, and near the end a trumpet-esque synth is heard. This is a great song that reminds me of childhood. The next song is basically just sound effects thrown together.

"K/Half Noise" might be one of the best ambient songs I have ever heard. Ever. It features much more than you would ever expect from a quartet. A drum-machine beat accompanied with synths and...violins? Yes, violins make the perfect ambient instrument for Mum. The rest of the album is pretty good. I didn't like 'Now There's That Fear Again', partly because of the voices. 'Faraway Swimmingpool' is another effect-driven song, and the next song is just amazingly quiet. The title track leads up to the amazing epic, 'The Land Between Solar Systems', but it is not to be skipped. It's another vinyl sounding ambient song where beats are reversed and synths and violins work in harmony. The drums in 'Land Between Solar Systems' are unique and amazing. I love the old school feel of this album so very much!

Overall, it's very hard to describe such a beautiful masterpicece. I'd describe it as a representation of someone's childhood living in a quiet village...but there is definitely trouble in paradise, which is what 'Now There's That Fear Again' tries to describe. Plus, Mum apparently likes Swimming Pools as well! I liked this so much, I'm going to go out and buy some more of their albums.

THUMBS UP FOR FINALLY WE ARE NO ONE.
