Customer Reviews:
Excellent CD!!.......2004-01-27
This is a classic. The first mix CD ever produced. Since this came out in 1994, nothing has ever come close. As someone who frequently visited Renaissance in Derby and Nottingham, UK at the time, I knew what I was buying. The first 3 tracks of CD1, Leftfield's "Song for Life" still make the hairs on my neck stand up - they're excellent! In contrast with most mix cd's, it's very difficult to even know when the tracks are being mixed! Such was and is the talent of Sasha and Digweed, and their multi-deck set-ups! BTW thank god for mp3 - my CDs, now 9 years and 9 months old, are scratched to hell - especially CD1, so no more listening to the original CD for me! Even at the high prices this now goes for - I have one recommendation - BUY!!! :o)
a timeless classic.......2003-04-22
For those who love the dance music of today with a flare for the historic underpinnings of the dj movement this is the natural starting point. This is a monsterous 3 cd compilation that gives us a birds eye view of what made an otherwise sleepy town called Manchester the birth-place of progressive house music. Fueled with blistering tracks adriotly mixed by Sasha and Digweed, this set takes one on an aural oddessey that makes frequent stops to the music that made the early nineties come alive, and brought Renaissance (the club) up to an international superclub. Additionally, this mix has grown in popularity due to the fact that it has been out of print for years and has become rather a scarce find. If you've bought the discs you'll know that what I say is true. If you haven't, this set comes with the highest recommendation. If you can't afford it check out DJ culture by Sasha and Dave Seaman -- this is a classic single disc from the same era that will give you a flavor of the heady days of the early Renaissance. cheers!! rock the vote :)
The all-time killer........2000-06-23
This CD set was recently voted in a UK magazine as being the most important CD compilation ever.
This is a 3-CD set that is pure class from beginning to end. Disc one has more of Sasha's feel to it, disc 2 diggers and disc 3 is mixed.
The tunes on this are almost all timeless, from Bedrock's "For what you dream of" to Fluke's "Slide".
Disc 1, for me, is one of the greatest compilations ever assembled, mixing 3 versions of Leftfield's "Cut for Life", Bedrock (if you're derious about house, you must get this track), and just going up from there.
This is the cornerstone of all house/trance compilation CD's that you see today. Cannot recommend highly enough, the masterpiece from the masters.
Renaissance Mix Session 1, Sasha & John Digweed (3 CD set).......2000-06-13
Sasha & John Digweed are the fathers of Progressive House. This albulm contains 3 continuous mix cds that are quintessential examples of Disco-House (remixed Disco tracks) and Progressive-House. Progressive House is the style of House that all of us late '80's, and early to mid '90's club and rave kids will remember.
The Modern House seen has gone on to Big-Beat and Hard-House, but for those of you who want some soul and energy in their music, this is the cd set for you. For me, on the dance floor, I have to have emotion, energy and constant variation in music to keep me moving. This cd set has the standard 4/4 beat of Progressive-House, but the minute beat progressions, samples and pure old-skool house synergy are what make this a favorite cd of mine. CD #3 (the green CD) in the set is the whole reason why I started going to raves back in '96.
These 3 cds are highlighted by soulful singing divas, heart pounding and body rocking beats, and electronic sequences that will bring the ecstasy back to your dance experience (if you know what I mean?). I truly love these cds because they are like a journey. They evolve and progress, taking on a life and meaning of their own. The track transitions are perfectly smooth and the track selections fit so well together if you didn't know better you'd think the cd was one long song.
This is a must buy for all Euro-house, Progressive-House, and Progressive-Trance enthusiasts. If you like any of the Northern Exposure, Global Underground, or Tranceport cds, you'll love this cd set!
