The series that sells itself short..........2006-03-03

The same company that brought us the series "Better Get This Now" seems to understand it's own concept based on the titles of it's compilations---FRUSTRATINGLY hard-to-find on CD club hits that were huge hits that everyone still seeks. So WHY then, do they not give us the FULL LENGTH versions of these rare tracks, and instead, edit them and segue each one into the next (and not even particularly well?). you can not select a single track without having remnants of another track at either the ending or beginning of it.

If you're completely desperate to have SOME form of these songs at all, then this is a good way to do it, but if you were hoping to find all your old vinyl remastered in its entirety in digital sound...you'll be totally let down. Track times:

Uneven collection of dance hits.......2005-03-15

I bought this CD for one reason, the hard to find dance hit "Jackie" by Blue Zone UK. This song was a hit on the dance chart and peaked at #54 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1988. It features Lisa Stansfield on vocals (she was a member of Blue Zone UK before she went solo in 1989). I had this song on a cassette single back in 1988/1989, and had been looking for it on CD for a long time.

Finally getting the aforementioned "Jackie" on CD was great, however the songs included here are all dance mixes and all songs are streamed together in a non-stop club mix format. This is fine if you want music to put on at a party and not have those embarassing pauses between songs. However, if you are looking for the original radio versions of these songs, you may be disappointed. I was a little disappointed in the version of "Jackie". Although it is good, it is still not quite what I was looking for. And the remix of "I Melt With You" by Modern English is down-right criminal. It strips the song of the angst and urgency that made it a cult classic in the first place.

Also, this CD contains a song that is to me a little offensive. "Another Man" by Barbara Mason is a song about a woman losing her man to "another man". Now, I understand this is supposed to be tongue in cheek. But in the song, she asserts that her man "is not a man at all" and that he is "defective". Well, I am all man and not defective at all.

It does have some high points ("My Arms Keep Missing You" by Rick Astley and "No Frills Love" by Jennifer Holiday) and some low points (the aforementioned "Another Man" and "I Melt With You"). Just proceed with caution.
