Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Erin Hamilton's "One World".......2002-04-19

When one first glances at the pictures of this artist on the cd the first impression is one of a uniqueiy different type of performer. The music inside definately follows suit. It consists mainly of "dance" tunes but has an overall fresh and sophisticated sound that is very welcome in today's world of R&B wannabies. Erin's voice is the icing on the cake, with a sultry, smooth and haunting quality which takes this recording to a new level of "dance". Plus she performs all of her own background vocals as well. Check out the stunning break in her high-energy remake of "Dream Weaver". Overall "Temple" stands out as a project that is well worth listening to whether you are into todays dance scene or not.

5 out of 5 stars Erin: New angel of dance music.......2001-02-07

I discovered Erin 2 years ago and immediatly fell under her spell. This woman is magnificient and talented. Her voice is both powerfull and emotional. "One World", her debut album, contains her 4 wonderful club anthems: "SATISFIED" (The best), "Dream Weaver", "The Flame", and "The Temple" plus great dance (""Sweet Angel", "Take Me As I Am") and downtempo songs (the gospel inspirated "One World". This album is a must have CD for any fan of good dance music. If you're a fan of Kristine W., Crystal Waters or Victoria Wilson James, Don't hesitate. ERIN IS A GIFT FROM HEAVEN

3 out of 5 stars Has what the others lack.......2001-02-05

I bought this CD just a few weeks after it was released, back in 1999. During my first listen I was immediately impressed with the sheer quality of Erin Hamilton's voice. It possesses the command and charisma--the blatant talent--that other new voices in the dance arena (or anyplace else) are simply missing. Absent from Hamilton's voice are the arduous effort and ostentatious sexual overtones those others seem to have to put forth to get a point barely across. (She, Ultra Nate, and Billie Ray Martin are clearly the singers of the bunch, not having to reply on hooks or gimmicks to perk a listener's ear...li-da-di-li-da-di whatever the line is.) The dexterity with which she sings is what supplies her house-informed dance music it's own vibrancy and bounce, not leaving the music to stand on its own while she attempts to enthuse typical clubland banter over its onward beat. However, not all of the material on this album relies on those two qualities alone: Her richness gives the opening ("The Temple") its edge as much as the song's techno instrumental does; her tenderness is what makes "Sweet Angel" float over it's delicate but propulsive beat. "Melt" could have easily been Deborah Harry's next club smash. Erin gives the track the phrasing and suppleness that could make Harry take notice. After pulling this out of my collection to listen to in the car this afternoon I felt I had to give my two-cents on this one. It's just too good compared to the nonsense that gets recognized for much less. I must add, however, that the only items that don't work, at least for me, are the album's closers: a dance remake of Cheap Trick's "The Flame" and the title track. The former is proof that someone can sing with a modicum of vigor while sleepwalking and the ladder is yet another prosaic rewrite of the let's-get-along amthem, complete with choir, quasi-worldbeat percussion, and emotive downbeat. Those aside, this collection is both pleasing and promising. I can hardly wait for its follow-up, not to hear the livilness of her next club hit as much as to hear what else she can wrap her plush chords around.
