Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars I love to love to love this Ultimate Soul Compilation . . ........2000-07-26

. . . but it is more than that. I got this CD while visiting London on business. It just so happened to be featured at one of Virgin records listening stations. After listening to it I just had to have it. This CD contains a mixture of funk, mellow groove, sexy acid jazz and is just a down right bomb R&B and soul compilation. 'Aint it a Shame' by Archie Bell and the Drells take you back to another time and remind me of hopscotch, pigtails, and lollipops, my daddy's bell bottoms, my momma's platform shoes. . . I could go on and on. Loeletta Hathaway's 'It's all about the Papers' is an anthem that must have been one of the inspirations for todays rappers that flow about the "Bling, Bling" and "Paper Chase" they speak of. Loleatta talks about the same things in this song and makes you realize that these ideas didn't just happen over night. Artists have been singing to the tune of money for years and years. My favorite songs on the album are the instrumentals like Gene Harris-'Los Alamitos Latinfunklove Song' with it's sexy mixture of Latin and Funk. The bass line of this song gets under your skin and gives you a groove that is so intoxicating that you can't help but relax and bob your head to it. This has to be my best CD purchase this year and I encourage anyone to buy this. If you love music, you will love it!
