Customer Reviews:
Pretty Good Mixed Set.......2007-02-15
I have to be honest... I've had this since it came out. But I never got into it for whatever reason. At the time I was probably a bit more into the melodic styled tracks. But I've found myself returning to this one - especially last year. It was a mixed set, compiled by Can 7, who features with a few of his own hits from the time period. It came out in 2000, so it's a little bit older but what's cool is that even today, IMO, it packs a potent punch!
This album is best for it's amazing beats. The CD starts out with "El Toro", remixed by Can 7 himself, and it's a great intro. The baseline will remind you a bit of Grupo Batuque, but it moves, glides and has that overlaying keys and jazz sound popular from 99-2001. But that's just the intro... you're very quickly thrown into Carnaval thanks to Nick Holder's "Carnaval 2000"... neat tracks and samples there, he really gave a festive feel to the song. Bah Samba follows and you really jam with Alta Plaza's "Obrigado". VERY neat guitar. And of course there's Can 7 with his loungish "Cruisin" track. Very nice keyboard work there and the horns in the bridge realy make it feel like you're in an adventure. There were loads of other good house cuts to check out too. Those were just the first 5 tracks, and if you were in a club you'd already have worked up a sweat! (or at least I would've)
So... if you do somehow manage to find this one, it's worth checking out. It is similar to ESL's "Jet Society", which was also out around that time but this one isn't quite as diverse. It's a throbbin' latin/Brazilian house adventure. Not much bossa and IMO not very trancy, just house and latin jazz vibes. If you do have this and always wanted something similar, or don't have this & can't find it, check out a compilation titled "Pure Braziliance", compiled by Faze Action. There's no track overlap and it's got the same relative vibe. You would also probably enjoy "Hotel Costes Etage 3"... also pretty similar. And finally, mixed sets have changd through the years so you might also like Brazilution 5.2 + 5.3 along with the Nova Latino series.
Destination Rio.......2001-07-03
This is a great party album. It has a good energy and every song is fun and exciting. It's latin feel music intermixed with funky trance dance beats.
