Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars for fans of house and speed garage.......2003-01-14

Groove Radio presents Speed Garage is one of the best speed garage compilations you can buy. This is not one of those typical dance compilations where each track sounds the same. Although more vocal and house-y than Speed Garage Classics or Basslines, the basslines here are fantastic. Standout tracks include; Gunman, Bizzi's Party, For Yourself, Hold your Head up High and of course Ripgroove. Upon hearing this album for the first time, one can see that it is a little more funky than the other two albums mentioned. However, this was one of the reasons it did not get 5 stars. Ripgroove stood out because it was so much darker than the other tracks. There were also a couple of fillers. Some of the tracks seemed to end just as they were getting to the cool bits. A few more bleeps and barking airdogs would have been great, too. Nevertheless it is an album definitly worth owning, as it will appeal to fans of house and speed garage.

5 out of 5 stars One of Two Bomb Speed Garage cd's.......2000-12-01

There really are only two dope mixes out there of speed garage. Groove Radio's cut, and one called Basslines. This album is alot more vocal, and I don't care what anyone else thinks, 187 Lockdown is tight. Speed Garage is not easy to mix, especially for extended periods of time, but Lockdown pulls it off.

In other words, this is a bomb f'in CD, and I suggest you buy it.

2 out of 5 stars if you are looking for 2 step, dont buy this cd..........2000-05-05

this cd is more house-y, and though vocal, which i like, it is also very obnoxious. those super funky uk garage beats are mostly absent here. if you would like to by some true uk 2 step, i suggest the cd 'pure garage', mixed by dj ez.

5 out of 5 stars The definition of true skills.......2000-03-19

So many djs these days are overrated. They set down some tracks, match a beat, and throw in a scratch here and there and people rave about the skill. (no pun intended) 187 Lockdown is the most overrated dj duo ever. I have owned this cd for about 3 years and never tire of it. Every track is uniquely different yet carries the same funktified vibe throughout the whole CD. Granted, speed garage isn't for everyone, but for those who appreciate good techno, please take my advise and get this. It's a unique mix of true club house, garage, reggae, and breakbeats.

5 out of 5 stars If you thought Gunman was a classic, listen to this whole CD.......1999-09-03

187 Lockdown take the listener through what has to be the BEST Speed Garage compilation ever. 187 Lockdown are the reason why I started DJing. My first record, Gunman by 187 Lockdown. That track is a classic and is included in this compilation.

Exploding with a bomb on the first track, track 2 continues to drop it with the sultry voice of Kathy Brown. "That sound is so nasty" is right for track 3, calming the beat down. House meets sub-bass on track 4 makes this Mousse T. production perfect to connect with Gunman. With western snippets on this song, just like on some of the other songs, Gunman is a testament to how bad 187 Lockdown are with that dark sound and feel. Sadly though it's only 4 minutes until they mix into track 6 but the bouncy beat to it just makes you, well, BOUNCE. Track 7 is a house number but flows beautifully into song 8 with its Jamaican snippets. Song 9 is melodic and trancy with that Garage feel to it and is quickly followed by Byron Stingily's house-meets-garage hit Sing a song. With pulsing beats, it's incredible how they mix it with Got Funk by the Funk Addicts(Roger Sanchez). This tune uses Method Man samples to rip through Mrs. Week's 'The Inside' mixed by SOL Brothers.

When other CD's that are jam packed in the beginning and middle like this one seem to come down on a low down and suck, this CD PICKS UP with Rip Groove by Double 99. Another dark garage sound that's a classic and one of my faves. A vs B continue with a vocal led track claiming 'our crew' but doesn't stop with the drums until Armand's mix comes on Wamdue Projects Where do we go(not where do you go) and is lastly mixed into Distortion by the Erick Morillo team.

A classic and must have Speed Garage compilation by the best in Speed Garage.
