Still smilin' after all these years! U.Roy, the original toaster, whose DJ delivery set Kingston ablaze in the early seventies, is back - this time courtesy of Mad Professor and the Ariwa sound crew. The godfather of the modern MC sounds right at home, riding some of the Professor's tightest nineties rhythms, including Yabby You's excellent Commercial Dreadlocks (here titled I'm A Rasta Man - the original is available on the highly recommended Yabby You Meets Mad Professor & Black Steel At Ariwa Studio, also available through Ariwa). The Professor even lays out some of his finest lovers' titles for U.Roy's attentions, and each gets a thorough workout. As you might expect, this is not quite as incendiary as the DJ's earlier work, but time has been kind to Mr. Roy, and he's still more than capable of dropping some "fly rhymes" (to appropriate a little modern parlance).
