Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Solid Compilation For the Time.......2005-03-02

This is a smaller mixed compilation released in 2000 on the Cinq Etoiles label. This is the same label that has done and is still pumping out lounge cd's titled 'Lounge Deluxe', 'Deluxe', etc. - anything with Monte La Rue. This was the labels forray into the nueva bossa nova market that was exploding at the time.

And to be fair this was a very capable competitor. The cd starts out with a custom intro and is shortly followed up with Modaji's "La Cosa Mas Chunga". It's a nice song but I think it tends to go for a bit too long. But picking up the pieces to that is Grupo Batuque's "Taruma", laden with smooth guitar rifts and easy going percussion. That's followed up by another of Far Out Record's trademark tracks, "Escravos Do Jo", as interpreted by Da Lata. Towards the end of the end of the cd you have another pearl in S-Tone Inc's sexy "Saudade", a track not released on any of his feature albums (but on vinyl).

I enjoyed this CD but it had a great deal of competition around the time of it's release and it didn't dislodge the regulars for me. There was Brazilectro, Break & Bossa III, Boss-A-Troniq, Brazilian Love Affair II, Trip Do Brasil, ESL Jet Society and even Glucklich IV to name just a few - and that's before 2001. Only Jet Society had pieces of it mixed like this one though, and that seems to be the standard of today. Also - this cd wasn't spotless. I dig Boyz from Brazil (think Gotan Project/Stereo Action Unlimited) and their rendition of "O Nosso Amor" was solid, not great. And "Guyana" was a bit too wanning to me too. But for the time, this was a good cd that I'd recommend.

5 out of 5 stars make your home a latin one.......2001-12-04

If you like modern latin music but hate Ricky Martin, this is your compilation. The tracks are well choosen and well combined. Exhilarating latin rhythms produced by artists with mainly an electronic background make this compilation stand out between the many 'obvious' latin compilations.
Feel free to dance on it or when you're a swinger, swing to it. The ultimate tool for a good latin-house-party!
