Essential 80s Euro Disco Part 1
Customer Reviews:
A Historic Landmark.......2000-08-12
I consider this album to be one of the most important turning points in the Pet Shop Boys career. Before this one came out, they had been focusing strictly on electronic music, basic "hit music" style recordings (although the album Actually is a piece of artwork on it's own). But when this one was made, they began to do, what now we have come to accept from them. Yet it was looked at as experimental by us, and most likely by them; it was a combination of electronic music now mixed with an orchestra. Example is the first song on the track, "Left to my Own Devices". I remember listening to this song over and over again. Incredible combination of orchestrations and electronic music with Neil's voice gently talking, and a woman singing in the background. I personally enjoy the version on this album, the ORIGNIAL version better, than the single release of this song. It always seems to me that the versions of the song that were put on the actual album are better than the quick renditions for the radio. And that can be said of every song on this album. This cd contains alot of hit songs that Pet Shop Boys are known for including "Domino Dancing", "Always on my Mind" and "It's alright". All of these pieces are different from the next, as can be said with every one of their albums, yet Introspective seemed to be them finally finding themselves, and liking the groove that they finally have settled into. Making it more enjoyable for us, that's for sure. Because this album is so good, that I couldn't see a Pet Shop Boy fan who doesn't have it. It certainly is worth any price. Even if just for the originality, alone.
