Very Mediocre.......2006-05-11
Why Fever even bothered to release this CD I do not know. In fact, I wonder if it was merely a hodge-podge of leftover, unreleased demos from earlier sessions. Even the cover photos appear to be second-rate alternates from the "True to Life" photo sessions. This CD came after the release of Melendez's foray into the Spanish-language Latin-music market, so perhaps the label was trying to capitalize on renewed interest. It had been five years since Melendez's last English-language outing, "True to Life." And the sudden appearance of this low-budget follow up was quite a surprise -- and a disappointing one.
Many songs here sound like rehashed, inferior versions of earlier, quality Melendez hits or other popular songs. "Never Ever" is the most blatant, ripping off the beat, melodic lines, and even vocal adlibs of "Goody Goody" from the "True to Life" CD (see my review). Then, there's "Time Passes By," which attempts unsuccessfully to relive the glory of the classic "Together Forever." Meanwhile, "I Like the Way You Do" borrows liberally from Groove Theory's "Tell Me."
But aside from the sound-alikes, this CD has an overall homogenous vibe that is quickly tiresome. The programmed arrangements, in fact, show very little "imagination," and Melendez's voice sounds disappointingly weaker than on her previous albums. Perhaps she was trying to sound sexier to fit in with the trends; but whatever the reason, the results are far less impressive than her earlier efforts. There are two tracks that are actually decent: the titletrack is a nice ballad, and "No More Lonely Nights" has a more feel-good arrangement than any other track here. But those two tracks alone are not worth buying the whole CD, unless you can get it very cheaply. Otherwise, stick to Melendez's other albums -- particularly "Together Forever"!
Underrated CD.......2003-08-01
This album is great! It shows that she can do more than Freestyle. The song "Ecstacy", she easily rivals Jennifer Lopez's single "If You Had My Love". While "Times Passes By" shows her in her great Freestyle and "Make the Way" (my favourite track) shows her doing some great Latin flavoured Dance-Pop! Highly recommmended to fans of Club/Dance & Freestyle music.
I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED..........2000-03-03
LISETTE MELENDEZ HAS ALWAYS BEEN ONE OF MY FAVOITE FREESTYLE ARTISTS BUT I WAS DISAPPOINTED WHEN I HEARD THIS CD. THE ONLY SONG I FOUND TO BE THE BEST WAS "TIME PASSES BY". HOPEFULLY HER NEXT ALBUM WILL BE BETTER
time passes by.......1999-12-04
this is the album for any of lissete's fans--time passes by and she can still dominate the freestyle scene...a must have for any of her old together forever fans...
