Customer Reviews:
Wonderful Compilation Album.......2003-06-15
This incredible singer/songwriter delivers his beautiful "Moonlight Kiss" straight from his heart and soul. He's no idea, but he absconded with my heart when I first heard him sing this enchanting song in the film "Serendipity," and this compilation album would have been incomplete without that captivating song.
Bap's songs are extremely well written and his accompanying musicians are continually outstanding, although these are selections from his three solo albums (Domestic Blues, Hillbilly Shakespeare and Lonely Street) and varying band persona. His cover of Steve Earle's "Angel is the Devil" will make you smile and tap your foot, as will Bap's playful "Vampire," and "Mostly Water." Bap's warm baritone voice is outstanding, especially on "Lonely Street," "Saturday Night and Sunday Morning," on a cover of Hank Williams Snr's "Lost Highway," and "[Let's lay down to rest all the] Ghosts of Belfast," the latter being a hauntingly beautiful folk-ballad Bap wrote about his Northern Ireland birthplace.
This is an extremely enjoyable album that will lift your spirits, and if you like it, do yourself a favor and purchase his other three solo albums as well, and --if you can find them-- the albums he made with his former Celtic rock/blues band: Energy Orchard - outstanding!
These are superb tunes from a very talented and gifted musician and the album is very highly recommended, but fair warning accompanies this review: This songwriter and his music are extremely addictive.
Great Mix.......2003-05-14
If you don't have previous Bap Kennedy cd's, this is an excellent introduction. The songs reflect some of his best work. Kennedy is an excellent example of the best of folk artists.
Bap Kennedy-Long Time a Comin'Story So Far.......2003-01-06
After much anticipation to Bap Kennedy's new album I was extremely disappointed with Long Time a Comin'. The album is nothing new!!! It's a compilation of the EXACT SAME recordings of some of the songs from his two previous albums - Lonely Street and Domestic Blues. The new album has two new songs, nothing special about either one, and obviously not worthy of a brand new album.
Please don't take me wrong, Bap Kennedy is an extremely talented singer-song writer who posseses a very unique style (his performance in Lonely Street and Domestic Blues are proof of his immense talent); however, if he is going to release a new CD which includes the same songs, the least that he can do is re-record each title, and maybe even add a new twist to each, to show that in fact he does possess exceptional talent.
My recommendation, don't waste your money on this CD, wait for Bap to come up with some new material. Believe me, I'm sure he will. He just needs to find new inspiration, and once he does -WATCH OUT! His two previous albums will be left in the dust.
