Editorial Reviews
Philadelphia Inquirer
"Walter has a light tone and takes an unusual approach to familiar material, finding new melody lines in tunes..."

Product Description
Vocalist J.D. Walter leads an all-star quartet (French pianist Jean-Michel Pilc, bassist Steve Varner and drummer Greg Hutchinson, with special guest John Swana on trumpet and flugelhorn) in a program of five standards, classics by Bill Evans, Stevie Wonder and Nat King Cole, plus the original title track. Bob Dorough calls this "a highwater mark in Vocal Jazz...an absolutely modern music that inspires and points the way to a new millenium..."

5 out of 5 stars Unforgettable and unique.......2004-02-14

I don't use either of those adjectives lightly. I heard this guy playing in a hotel lounge back when this CD was just made and he was incredible. It was like finding a 2-carat diamond in a sandbox. His rendition of "You always hurt the one you love" is my favorite. I'm still raving about him to friends and wondering how I can get him to come play in Charlottesville!

5 out of 5 stars A Siren of a CD.......2003-04-28

If you don't believe the voice is the greatest instrument, you've never heard J.D. Walter. And if that's the case, start with this album. J.D. has the ability--both startling and hypnotic--to manipulate a song until he mines its essence and delivers it to the listener. And he does it with beautiful tone. Think of music as a force of nature and J.D. as the channeler. I can honestly say he's the best jazz singer I've ever heard, and I've heard a lot of them. My birthday gift this year was a chance to experience J.D.'s singing live, in an intimate setting. For those not so lucky, pop this CD in your car stereo, close the windows, and let him take you wherever you want to go.
