Do you like smooth jazz.......this is the CD for you. Mellow.....easy listening......joe fuentes is truly a gifted musician. Juliana is my favorite track, listen and enjoy.

Slow Freight, Overloaded With Blandness.......2002-06-23

"A Good Cup Of Joy" is touted as something to do with the guitarist relationship with coffee...it's a shallow concept. This guy needs a producer who is willing to criticize and add to his ideas. It's not that that he is without any talent, but left to his own, Fuentes just doesn't explore the potential of his material. This album gets a "B" for boring.

Technically adept but boring.......2002-05-23

Typical of this CD's low aim and artistic laziness is the corny play on words "A Good Cup Of Joe." The vague expression of contentment with a cup of coffee, voiced listlessly by the technically adept but boring Joe Fuentes, is perfect for the office-ready smooth-jazz radio format and little else.

If you like smooth jazz with a slight latin flavour blending a mix of nylon strung and electric playing you will love this CD. Each track has something different to appreciate and it just gets better with more plays. I liked every track, Slow Brew and House Blend are really mellow sounds with some great single lines complimented with cool backing rhythm. Hangin Out is an excellent piece showing just how smooth and soulful nylon strung guitar can sound amplified. I only recently discovered Joe Fuentes and I'm looking forward to future projects from this skillful and very talented musician/songwriter.

I was intrigued by the mixed reviews this CD was getting, and so, I listened to 2 tracks I found on his website.

...I REALLY liked what I heard - so I bought the CD!

Prozac!?! I don't know about that.

One thing is to give a CD a bad review and another to post the same review twice (a clear attempt to give the CD it a bad reputation by "Trevor" - See Nov 4-2001)

I for one (and there seems to be quite a few of us...) really enjoy listening to Dr Kilo and Hangin Out.
Slow Brew is My favorite! No wonder he opened the CD with that - it is a very strong tune with lots going on - if you want to listen deeper - but it also has a pleasing melody with a not-to-mean but right-in-the-pocket bass line.

I can clearly hear a lot of influences ranging from Larry Carlton and George Benson, to Earl Klugh and even Pat Metheny. Joe is obviously well informed of the musical landscape and yet manages to stand apart from the croud.
He has his unique voice and is a very talented musician.
...At the end of the day, that is what matters.
