"Jon Lucien has written some of the best love songs of the last 25 years, yet he never had a major hit and for a decade he didn't even make a record." Though somewhat difficult to label, his music contains elements of jazz, Brazilian music, funk, R&B, Afro-Cuban and pop and yet it does not fit neatly into any of these categories, as several styles are often obvious simultaneously. The term that has come to represent that approach is "quiet storm," and over the course of his performances that proves to be as appropriate a description as any. Lucien sings with a power that comes from his depth of feeling and conviction. Even when performing songs written by others, Lucien sounds as though he has lived the situation he is singing about.
