I WANT MY MONEY BACK!.......2004-04-06
If you want the good stuff check out Screaming Headless Torsos. In the context of brilliant songs with verses, choruses, a bridge, and set solo sections, The Fuze is the second coming. On JazzPunk, The Fuze is a great painter without a picture frame to collect the good stuff.
Anything goes (And I mean anything!). Any and all ideas run free, and it just goes on and on and on and on with endings to songs that never want to end for untold self indulgent minutes. The rhythm section is all over the place. Good editing and good taste is an underappreciated art.
There's something to be said for a producer to rope a guy in and pick the good stuff, but I suspect this is one of those projects where the artist gets the opportunity to do whatever the hell he wants to do. Forget trying to create something even remotely commerical that droves of jazz freaks would want to buy.
If it was me putting in all that effort for what it takes to put a CD out, I'd want to get something back for it. Then again I'm not part of the New York artsy fartsy, afrocentric, everybody play in a different key at The Knitting Factory, post Living Colour, harmolodic scene. Maybe that's the market for this recording. More power to you.
For this type of vibe Scott Henderson does a similar thing but it's actually very enjoyable. But that's LA for ya'. Always thinking.
