Karen Carpenter had a great voice,and here is a big collection of songs from this brother and sister team.To name the best songs from this duo is difficult because there is so many to choose from.But a definite favorite is Top Of The World.I love that tune.
But a song that realy established them was (They Long To Be) Close To You.That song is about their most known song and i love it.There is a great assortment of songs here like We've Only Just Begun.I wont go through all the songs as The Carpenters were consistently good.

To review this cd collection is simple - short and sweet it has all the hits plus some added extras and the remastering is pure perfection. It seems that with every new collection that came out Richard tinkered with the orchestration, vocal intensity and the songs over time lost all their essence of beauty and power that was there when first recorded.

These songs are all great due to the wonderful arrangements by Richard, the excellent song selection but foremost the rare vocal ability that Karen possessed. Her voice was always so pure with open, honest emotion and an ever constant tinge of melancholy/sadness. To change this in any way denies us of the gift that is Karen Carpenter. Her voice is one of the best of all times. Perfection cannot be enhanced as those other collections tried to do.

These songs I can guarantee are the original versions remastered perfectly and it is very emotional to hear that voice come out so clear, so pure - the voice of an angel. These are the original songs in their original form as you remember them.

All Carpenter fans - this cd will be a dream come true. Purchase it and Karen will live on for you forever.

As always!...Lea never failed her audience, listeners and fans. I have collected Lea's album for years and treasured them. I never had a chance to see her performing on stage even when I was in Manila. I lived in London for 6 years and much to my regret, I did see Miss Saigon twice but it wasn't Lea performing the role of Kim. I was in New York when Lea performed in Carnegie Hall, too bad we had to drive to Philadelphia on that day of her concert. Well, I guess my only wish is to see Lea singing & performing live on stage one day.
Now that I live here in Seattle, all I can do is to listen to her albums on a daily basis. I always play this album "Inspired" on my way to work and home, this truly is a gem to own. I'm looking forward for more albums to come and continue to listen to her songs and be...Inspired!

Wow. wow. I'm not at all a "trekkie", never liked the shows, but always appreciated shatner for what he...does for pop culture. I'm 18 so missed the age of lusting after him, but get that he's...there. I got this on itunes on a whim. So Good. So Good. It is by far the most hypnotizing album I have ever heard. To hear young Shatner "sing" (his album 'has been' prepared me somewhat) and to hear Nimoy sing...I think I just might be high from simply hearing such tones. lol, buy it if you like bizarre. buy it if you like Nimoy or Shatner. buy it if you can't afford pot.

Ok I bought this knowing full well it would be bad...bad...bad. But that's what happens when actors try to be musicians. I love both Shatner and Nimoy and if you are a Trekkie/Trekker...you need this. But if you are just a music lover, you don't.

Let me be clear from the outset: get this album only if you are the kind of person who enjoys the bizarre. It is incredibly strange to hear Leonard Nimoy sing - actually sing in a deep, almost baritone voice - about the hobbit Bilbo Baggins. His rendition of Peter Paul and Mary's Hammer Song (If I Had a Hammer) is hysterical. And Shatner, oh, Bill, what were you thinking? This album takes campy to new heights.

If you are looking for that weird cd, and one that will cause you to shake your head, this is the one for you. First, let us just say, that although Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner give it their best effort, it is not classical singing that you will be listening to. But, it is just good enough (or bad enough-depending on your tastes), that if you are a fan of either of these two actors, you will enjoy it.

i would have given this cd 5 stars but there was just somthing missing. it mighte be mr. scotty doing a bagpipe solo, or mr soolo playing the skin flute, or bones haveing a drum solo in the middle. i'm just not sure i konw its missing somthing, and that something is missing from your colletion.

Born in 1974, British tenor Russell Watson became an opera singer by freak occurrence. While he was regularly singing in bars and clubs in the Manchester and London suburbs, an owner of one such venue told Watson that he thought his voice was better suited for opera and requested that he learn Puccini's 'Nessum Dorma', which he did and promptly added to his set. Watson eventually signed with Decca Records, issuing his debut, entitled The Voice, in April of 2001. This collection is worthy of SIX stars! This is the most enjoyable, highest-quality Percy Faith collection I have seen. Not only is the collection about as "Ultimate" as you could desire, it brings back in glorious stereo quality some of my favorite albums. The various tracks from his "Young Lovers" series are utterly fantastic!!

This is the best compilation of Mr. Faith's orchestrations I have seen yet. Some of the music on this CD I have heard on easy listening radio stations in the 1970s that I have not seen released on CD until this set came out, such as the lush and velvety rendition of Burt Bacharach's tune "Always Something There to Remind Me", with great strings and brass. This is a great set and well worth the money.

Yes, everything you could ever wat from this Crazy Panpiping Virtuoso is in this set so look no further. Almost every song from the Lonely Shepherd CD is on here, plus about 28 more songs for about 2-3 dollars more...so you're definitely getting a better deal.

What can I tell you about "the Zamf" that you don't already know?
Probably nothing if you are reading my review because you are probably already a Zamf-head. Buy this CD and get ready to be so moved that you cry alone while playing this and think about other music that "The Zamf" could do in his style..only better.

And if you are into 70 year old Chinese Widows....yes you heard me right...you play these Cd's for them & they'll be dropping their Depends for you in no time.

    To all who have commented and/or complained of poor reproduction of cover art, and/or shoddy sound, consider that Pickwick (the distributing label) is not known for high-end work. Also, if they are playing the same CD that I just got, 1988 was long before serious attention was paid to the engineering techniques & software that are available have in the 2000s. Granted, the lack of any liner notes is insulting, but on my stereo everything sounded as clear as most current day releases. Hip-O Select offers a more comprehensive edition (22 songs, quite a few of them from his films), but you still won't find With One More Look at You (which was only released once, on vinyl in 1977). Fully realized, rather extravagant liner notes as well. You get what you pay for.

    I am in absolute agreement with the general concusses, however: Paul Williams has long been cruelly maligned & overlooked for his multitude of multi-faceted talents. Singer, songwriter, actor, playwright, licensed drug rehabilitation counselor among them. It always irked me then he was criticized in the 70s for his voice, when there are always far more (or less) questionable talents who top the charts with much less melody. Any criticism shouldn't be with what is available, but with what is still shelved or vaulted.

    His bread and butter was writing great pop tunes for other artists. Even if you have never heard of him you are probably familiar with some of his best known tunes like "An Old Fashioned Love Song", "Rainy Days and Mondays" and "Evergreen" from the motion picture "A Star Is Born". Yes, Paul Williams had a hand in writing some of the most memorable pop hits of the 1970's. But what you may not know is that Paul Williams was a pretty fair artist in his own rite.
    Simply entitled "Paul Williams", this 1998 release from Australia will give the listener a pretty good idea of just how talented an artist Paul Williams really is. Although as an artist he only managed the proverbial "cup of coffee" on the Billboard Hot 100 with the extraordinary "Waking Up Alone" (#60, 1972), Paul Williams would release several LP's during the 70's and 80's. Though these albums never sold particularly well Paul Williams nonetheless loved to sing the songs he wrote. And he sang them extremely well indeed. This Paul Williams CD features a whole bunch of songs you should be familiar with. In addition to the ones I mentioned above you will also find "We've Only Just Begun" and "I Won't Last A Day Without You" which were big hits for the Carpenters and a great song he wrote for Helen Reddy "You and Me Against The World". That one is among the most enjoyable on the disc. I would also recommend for your consideration two other tunes that were minor hits for other artists. See what you think of "That's What Friends Are For" which hit the charts briefly for B.J. Thomas back in 1972 and "Traveling Boy" which although never made the Hot 100 was my very favorite Art Garfunkel single ever. A pair of other tunes from Paul's albums worth noting are "Ordinary Fool" and "Time and Tide".
    It is safe to say that Paul Williams wrote or co-wrote the vast majority of the songs in this collection. However, there is no way to tell in this extremely "barebones" package. You get the titles of the 19 songs and that's about it. Too bad. That does detract just a bit from an otherwise impressive collection. "Paul Williams" the disc is in the final analysis a reasonably priced and fairly comprehensive collection of the best that this talented singer/songwriter has to offer. As for Paul Williams himself you can catch up with what he is doing these days on the web at paulwilliamsconnection.org.

    I'm 15 years old and have come to appreciate and love his music. I know most of the songs on this CD; they are timeless and incredible works of art--unfortunately the record company doesn't think so.

    I can't get this CD anymore! It's out of print! :'(

    I heard "Roses and Lollipops" on the "Music of your life" radio station, and I remembered Sid in "Officer and a Gentleman" saying, "Jack Jones, we need you now." He was right! I was very pleasantly surprised with the quality of this man's voice- I wonder if "Wives and Lovers" wasn't so politically incorrect, that he might not get the recognition he deserves? The smoothness and dynamic range of his voice is wonderful, and this collection is very easy to listen to. His version of "Impossible Dream" is particularily inspiring. If you like great vocalists, get this CD.

    Jack was very popular in America in the sixties, during which decade he recorded initially for Kapp, before switching to RCA in 1967. Like many other American singers, Jack found it hard to gain acceptance in Britain although he eventually achieved that in the seventies. Even then, he never had a UK hit single though he had several hit albums. To some extent, this mirrored what happened in America, where his albums were more successful than his singles.

    This album, focusing on Jack's early music, contains the songs that established his reputation in America including Wives and lovers, The race is on, Call me irresponsible, Dear heart, Lollipops and roses, Lady and The impossible dream. Jack was also a brilliant interpreter of other people's song as he shows with fine covers of Alfie, People, Bewitched, From Russia with love, Strangers in the night, I will wait for you, Michelle and If you go away - most of these songs will be familiar to fans on both sides of the Atlantic, whether or not they've heard Jack's versions. Other outstanding songs include Day in the life of a fool and Our song.

    Committed fans should note that some of Jack's original albums are now available on twofers. Thus, some of the rarities referred to by other reviewers are not quite as rare now.

    You'll need to buy another compilation to hear Jack's music for RCA, but as a sampler of his music for Kapp, this British budget collection is as good as you'll find.

    Our Song... as another reviewer rightly said, is a high point on the album, and this is quite possibly the only place to hear it on CD at this time.

    Jack always delivers, and this is a very strong collection of songs. Opening with one of my personal favorites, A Day In The Life Of A Fool, Jack treats us to some classic covers, including the Bacharach-David masterpiece Wives And Lovers, Lennon and McCartney's Michelle and McKuen/Brel's If You Go Away.

    Jack has never been afraid of taking chances, and his jazzy treatment of Michel Le Grand's I Will Wait For You, is just one of the delights from this Classic Jack era.

    Sadly, this does not contain my fave Jack cover And I Love Her, but I could forgive anything of a man who flew out with the USO to share his genius with the troops in Nam.

    But then, that's Jack.

    What more can I say that the title of teh record doesn't already say... This is a great set of Jack's greatest hits, and shows why he's considered to have the greatest set of pipes in teh industry. his vocal control is amazing, and these arrangeemtns are swinging and tasteful for the 1960's. Jone's appealing baritone always uplifts standards and even inferior material. a great set of hits.

    Terrific easy-listening music. I added my review partly because the 1-star rating from the listener in Wilmington seemed to be inconsistent with his glowing review. If you like Sinatra, NK Cole, you should enjoy this.
