I wanted to purchase this cd when it first came out but I procastinated and I was sorry because it is an excellent cd. I especially love all of the jazz rendentions of Luther's compositions. I listen to this cd almost every day. I loved Luther singing the songs and now I love listening to the music.
...for Luther II.......2007-03-11
I loved it. Anything by Luther Vandross, and particularly by these musicians, is wonderful and soothing to the soul. Thank God he left us so much of his music.

Wonderful!!!.......2007-05-14
I bought this for my husband but fell in love with it myself. I had never heard of it but now consider Edvard Grieg my favorite composer. It is magnificent.
Relaxes your mind........2005-12-30
The peer gynt suite is very delicate and it relaxes me. Whenever I hear the first movement of Peer Gynt, I feel as if I am walking along the forest at dawn with sunshine passing through the tall trees. It calms me and I usually close my eyes to imagine Grieg's creative masterpiece. What also interests me the fourth movement. It starts with slow and quiet and then slowly the music accelerates with power. Like the title, "Mountain King," says itself, you can feel the grandness of the music toward the end.
The piano concerto in a minor is my favorite. This music seem to convey the full spectrum from quiet and delicate or gracious feel of music to more powerful and magnificent all proportionally adequately. It is very enjoyable. Whenever I listen to this music, I feel as if I am resting in the high mountainn looking at the full panorama. Anyway, that's just my imagination I feel from his music and of course, yours can be very different from mine.
As for the CD quality, I hear no distraction sound and it is recorded well, I think. The little cover booklet can be informative about Grieg. Also nice price from Amazon.
Relaxing music from a great composer.......2005-08-02
I absolutely loved the string music on Track 3. I remembered it from an old PC RPG called Quest for Glory IV. I was disappointed to find out that Track 4 was only a minute and a half long, because I grew up loving that song from the various places I heard it (Fantasia and a kid Detective PC game from the late 80's).
Overall, though, Grieg's greatest hits is a must-have for collectors of classical music. Grieg is revered as Norway's greatest composer of all time and he certainly has a knack for creating imagery of bustling fjords and majestic mountainsides with interlaced river ravines.
Better than just an introduction.......2004-04-28
This CD goes beyond just introducing Grieg. It is a truly beautiful and for me, invaluable collection of this excellent composer. Grieg had an inimitable gift for exploring emotion, often sadness and nostalgia. However, he also had a large touch of the virtuoso, as demonstrated by the famous Piano Concerto. True, the last 2 movements are not included here; however, the first is still stunning. The Peer Gynt Suites are wonderfully played, and Ase's Death and Heartwounds are especially noteworthy - the lush orchestral sounds of these gorgeous pieces unfold exquisitely. Homage March is a nice change of pace, upbeat and with a memorable theme, and Leonard Bernstein moves at a devilish pace in March of the Trolls. This CD will not disappoint you - buy it today!
Great CD.......2002-01-29
For an intro to Greig, this is great. The "hall of the mountain king" is done very well.

You don't need a bottle of Jack or even a trace of Southern lineage to appreciate the genius of Drive-By Truckers' Southern Rock Opera. Without a hint of irony, the Athens, Georgia, quintet creates a fast-driving, hard-living tribute to the indelible music and legacy of Lynyrd Skynyrd. Like any good concept album, there's a modicum of plot and a theme to these 20 songs (loosely based around the rise and fall of fictitious Southern rock band Betamax Guillotine), but the best tracks make you forget the story line altogether: "Birmingham," "Zip City," and "Let There Be Rock." The "opera" aspects bog things down a bit--you probably only need to hear the spoken-word track "The Three Great Alabama Icons" once--but the overall concept still comes off without a hitch. The lyrics are great, the trio of electric guitars is blessed with raw production, and the tunes--though lacking the pop sensibility of, say, "Gimme Three Steps"--will have you cranking up the album for your friends. And, after a few spins of Southern Rock Opera, you might even find yourself digging out those old Skynyrd LPs to hear the real thing again. --Jason Verlinde
Album Description
A southern rock opera about growing up in the south in the 70's, the rise and fall of arena rock, the mythology surrounding the band Lynyrd Skynyrd, and common misconceptions about the south.

Southern Rock Rises Again .......2007-06-08
I really like the lyrics to this. That is what drew my attention to this cd. The vocals of one of the lead singers may take a bit to used to...
but this is rock after all. This cd inspired me to go out & purchase some
old Skynyrd cd's. After all ... "I DID SEE LYNYRD SKYNYRD". And after listening to the cd, you will understand what i'm talking about. For any Skynyrd fan this is a must hear. Ronnie would be proud. This cd is geat on many levels... check it out.
I Was Robbed!.......2007-03-30
After reading the other reviews of this two disk set, I thougt I'd add this to my collection. What a huge mistake. To say that these guys sound anything like Lynyrd Skynyrd or any other quality Southern Rock Band of the 70's era would be a total put-down of all the true musicians of that era. When I received this set in the mail, I first pulled out the liner notes and lyrics and read the whole "book". I liked the lyrics and the theme of most of the songs. Then I put the disks in and listened to this mess. I have never been more disappointed in my life. The longer I listened the more angry I became. Why? These guys suck. They are bad musicians, the production is bad, as far as the general sound quality, it is a muddy mess. If you are looking for good musicians with good tone that understand how to weave three guitars into well written, intricate songs with the sweet twang of southern rock guitars, look elsewhere. These hackers missed the mark by a long shot. They play out of tune, sing out of key and the production is bad. I can't believe I was suckered into actually paying for this garbage.
Keep listening.......2007-03-02
My only problem with the dbts is tring to figure out which album is there best,I have 4 and love them all. S R OPERA takes a little more time to appreciate than there other records, but is well worth the time, These guys are outstanding, wide variety of sounds, great song writing, Remind me of early Wilco, bottlerockets, and other bands from the heartland,if you love the grit and grind of exile on main street. you will love these guys. My favorite albums never sounded good to me at first, So keep listening!!!!!!!!
The Best Hard Rock Album of the New Millenium.......2007-02-19
The Truckers are simply one of the worlds most criminally under appreciated bands. Southern Rock Opera is nothing short of an American masterpiece. It's the Truckers magnificent opus that marks the change from a smart but ultimately campy southern rock group into a southern rock group of rare emotional depth, intelligence, and diversity.
Southern Rock Opera is not exactly an opera. It's more of a concept album--part history lesson, part autobiography, part fiction that loosely follows a character with dreams of becoming a rock star. It explores his musical ambition and sense of identity, beginning in high school all the way up to a tragic ending mirroring the fate of one of his musical idols, Ronnie Van Zandt of Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Along the way he redicovers what it means to be from the South and regains his pride for his southern heritage. Musically this is a hard rockin album that slow's down occasionally without ever sounding tired. It allows the listener to catch his breath and enjoy the variety between the bands primary two songwriters Patterson Hood and Mike Cooley. The longtime friends and musical collaborators have in Southern Rock Opera a record to be immensly proud of. Uncompromising, yet earthy and earnest, the album only kicks off a series of DBT records that follow, each one in their own right rock masterpieces. After Southern Rock Opera the band went through some line up changes and added singer songwriter Jason Isbell. Isbell's contributions have been incredibly important, adding yet another dynamic, one of an incredibly talented and soulful musician, to the already unique duality of Hood and Cooley. The band followed Decoration Day with their equally powerful albums The Dirty South and 2006's Blessing and a Curse. Truly a great rock n roll band of monumental proportions, it's a crying shame not more have been fortunate enough to hear them or have the guts to appreciate them.
Not my favorite.......2006-12-26
I love DBT!! That being said, this disc marks a turn in direction for the band, and the turn ain't too smooth. There are some gems here- check out "Dead Drunk and Naked"-- classic Patterson Hood. But overall, I feel the song writing is sub par, and frankly, disc 2 is just poor.
Personally, I would pick up the other 5 cd's prior to this one. If you really love the band after that, you might wanna try to find this one on the cheap somewhere.

To follow up their bombastic 1995 album Exit Planet Dust, the Chemical Brothers fine-tuned their bombastic beats and produced a rock-solid pop album (pun intended). Dig Your Own Hole finds the common ground between rock & roll and techno, both in spirit and substance. Singles like "Block Rockin' Beats," "Elektrobank," and "Setting Sun" (featuring vocals by Oasis's Noel Gallagher) may lack the big hair and pomposity of rock music, but they make up for it in spades, with sampled and real guitars battling for space with sirens and distorted hip-hop drums. The album reeks of pure enthusiasm and energy, evoking a crowd-pleasing exuberance that makes Dig Your Own Hole a Back in Black for the late 1990s. Pure stadium techno. --Matthew Corwine
Album Description
Second album (1997) featuring the singles 'Block Rockin' Beats', 'Elektrobank' and 'Setting Sun' (with Oasis' Noel Gallagher on vocals), plus a new mix of 'Get Up On It Like This'. The album debuted in the top 20 of Billboard's Top 200. 11 tracks total on this Astralwerks release.
Customer Reviews:
A terrific masterpiece.......2007-05-25
I really enjoy this album, they have a unique style that reflects many influences.
Techno's opera.......2007-05-04
Although Roni Size's New Forms won the Mercury Prize in 1997, it is very hard to argue that the Chemical Brothers' Dig Your Own Hole does not hold up better than any of the great albums 1997 electronica has to offer. For one thing, it is a matter of consistency; each song flows into the next, making Dig Your Own Hole more cohesive than even mix albums. But unlike mix albums, each song has a distinct quality that sets it apart from the song before it (although "Don't Stop the Rock" sounds like "It Doesn't Matter" Part II). For another, it is a matter of confidence. If this was the first album the Chemical Brothers ever made, it would no doubt be the greatest debut album in electronic music. But it's their second, and the maturity from the previous album is immediately apparent. This album is dead-on focused; the Chemical Brothers would never again sound so assured. The best techno albums are the ones that keep the vocals to a minimum. On Dig Your Own Hole, only "Setting Son" serves as an actual song with lyrical structure, the other ten songs are loose and adventurous. The reason why Dig Your Own Hole is techno's opera is because of the way it starts, the way it continues, and the way it finishes. The beginning is a perfect build-up bassline carousing into the explosive "Block-Rockin' Beats" and it finishes with a Gothic-like chime rounding off the masterful, Arabian-influenced "The Private Psychedelic Reel". And in between is the most accomplished Big-Beat rave electronica has ever produced. Dig Your Own Hole will always be a top ten techno album. Exhilirating. A
Deal With It!.......2007-02-22
Simply put, this album is the sound of the recording studio ripping itself apart from the inside out. CB create an album that is at once intense, fun, loud, sexy, nasty, techno, disco, rock and roll,etc.,etc. Not for people that don't get into more complex arrangements of music, or not familiar with many genres of music or simply just did not do enough drugs in the nineties. This is not the kind of album that you play for background effect, this is an album that demands to be confronted head on...so deal with it!
Dig Your Own Hole-I dig it.......2006-08-28
I liked it. Great tecno beat and some less techno softer songs.
Exciting from start to finish........2006-07-25
What can I say about this album? It's a record that will move you, groove you, keep you smiling throughout its entirety, all while thinking, it's so great for its price! I saw it sitting there on the shelf once, but passed it by the first time in favor of Björk's Telegram. Now I regret not getting this first.
SHORTEST TRACK: Get Up on It Like This
LONGEST TRACK: The Private Psychedelic Reel
Block Rockin' Beats: The quintessential opener, and a wonderful lead-in to the title track. An awesome bassline captures your ears and locks them in, saying "This is gonna be fun." 9.5/10
MIX #1
Dig Your Own Hole: Wild, fast, and furious, this song is the open door to this album. It entices you with fast and exciting guitar riffs before shooting you into the hot track. 8.5/10
Elektrobank: The hot track. This, in my opinion, is the best track on the album. Its steaming-hot guitar line and irresistible drumming leaves you breathless. And to make it even more exciting, the song launches into an overdriven-guitar-laden thumper after 6 minutes. The end is a repeating guitar lick with a rainy-day kind of feel. 10/10
Piku: After this incomparable stroke of genius, more genius! This funky little ditty focuses more on drum structure than anything else. It kinda soars over your head. 9.5/10
END OF MIX #1
Setting Sun: The only song with a true vocal portion, this song features Noel Gallagher of Oasis singing powerful vocals about someone who completes him. Very real. 8.5/10
MIX #2
It Doesn't Matter: In my opinion, the worst song on the album, but still listenable. What kills it is its length and the constant drone of "it doesn't matter" over and over. Wonderfully leads into the next rack, though. 8/10
Don't Stop the Rock: Something I like to call "danceable filler." It sounds very empty, but I like the strange-sounding kick drum and the tinny hi-hats. Also, it has some catchy little drum breaks. 9/10
Get Up on It Like This: Short and sweet, it starts out very wild, then quickly becomes very empty and stays that way for the remainder of the song. Kind of a "tag-on" at the end of the mix. 8.5/10
END OF MIX #2
Lost in the K-Hole: Awesome all around. This song has a mysterious "California winter" flair to it, with its twinkling synth-harp and funky bassline. 10/10
Where Do I Begin: Where do I begin? First of all, it kinda has that pop feel to it, what with the soft guitar and all. Very repetitive, but never boring. The second half completes it with a nice drum section. 9.5/10
The Private Psychedelic Reel: Great ending to a great album. That's all I have to say. 10/10
Final verdict: 9.5/10

This album's all about the blazing virtuosity of Robert Randolph. The pop-music arrival of the young pedal-steel guitarist from the Pentecostal church was shepherded last year by the North Mississippi Allstars and groove organist John Medeski in a brilliant album and group called The Word. With his own Family Band and just one spiritual, the lovely "Pressing My Way," on the set list, Randolph sends lightning bolts through the audience in this August 2001 recording at a now-shuttered Manhattan club. He blends the showmanship of his blues inspiration, Stevie Ray Vaughan, with his own unique instrumental mastery, transforming his steel guitar into something more like a lead vocalist. Randolph constantly makes his 13-string guitar play call-and-response with his own singing, and he breathes fire into Slim Harpo's chestnut "Shake Your Hips" by making it a field day for his stabbing splashes of notes and chords, inventing a different melody for his long solos that's more western swing than swamp blues. Although the shout-and-stomp-along original, "I Don't Know What You Come to Do," raises the crowd, it's the 11-minute finale, "Tears of Joy," that is Randolph's showstopper. The tune's a crafty summation of all his gifts: slow, sliding, rich-toned notes and low-buzzing chords; rhythms that pull from the stately qualities of gospel (enhanced by the way Randolph's steel blends with John Ginty's Hammond organ) and the pure exhilaration of rock improvisation; and beautiful tones that echo from honky-tonk to Hendrix. It's the musical equivalent of a white-water thrill ride. --Ted Drozdowski
Album Description
Robert Randolph is one of the most talented pedal steel guitarists of his generation, picking up comparisons to Stevie Ray Vaughan, Duane Allman and Jimi Hendrix. Live At The Wetlands is the debut from Randolph and The Family Band. Dare Records. 2002.

Loud, Live, and doesn't care who knows it!!!!.......2007-04-01
The Robert Randolph & Family Band's first effort is a portion of their
road show, its too bad they didn't give us the whole truth and nothing
but the truth. Thats what this CD leaves me feeling. Kind of like the
Asian massage place on the edge of town, "your stopping now, I was just
getting started". That is this CD's only but semi-fatal flaw. I have
seen this band perform on late night TV, and Austin City Limits, but
would like to see them live, have they made a central west sweep,
(Colorado)? Robert Randolf & Family Band would be one of the few acts I
would go to see live. Not many of them left anymore, having two brothers
and, I've heard), a cousin in the same band, with possible family members
as the rythm section is always a plus. I would suggest you listen to
this CD, if not purchase it out right. This band is not only something
different, but it is the real McCoy. Even live, the band is tight,
right, and polite. The music is infectous, the beat, the beat, the beat
will cure what ails you, if it is at all possible.
Good music.......2007-03-24
I first saw Robert Randolph & the Family Band on our PBS station & you just can't sit still when playing his music. It is "feel good" music & I intend to buy all his CD's. There is great energy & enthusiasm in this CD - you can feel it.
High-Energy Electric Blues.......2007-03-07
Though I am the owner of many of the recordings listed on the amazon list of "Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought...", I was blissfully unaware of Robert Randolph and the Family Band until a friend recently loaned me Live At The Wetlands. After a couple of listens, I was hooked. What an album!
I was initially skeptical of how the pedal steel guitar was going to work with the blues, but Randolph has me convinced that it can. Live At The Wetlands brings you over an hour of high-energy electric blues with a dollop of soul worked in for good measure. There are five originals and one cover of a Slim Harpo classic.
I like the entire CD but unless you are in constant need of a musical jolt, I'd say its not for everyday listening. I'm thinking it would work best at your next outdoor pool party/barbecue and would make a great substitute for a live band. Give it a listen and hear what I mean!
RICK SHAQ GOLDSTEIN SAYS: "ROBERT HAS TONS OF ENERGY WITHOUT THE BLUES!".......2007-01-24
Since, I'm a world renowned "BLUES" reviewer, after buying this CD, I feel this really shouldn't be in my specialty category, and this review, is based on, an out of category synopsis. How, did the world's premier blues reviewer, get involved with this CD, you ask? Simple! I was given a gift of a DVD from the "Crossroads" charity concert that Eric Clapton put on. Among the guest performers were Buddy Guy, Jimmie Vaughn, John Mayer, etc. And for the first time ever, I saw Robert Randolph. He played his steel pedal guitar backing up Buddy, and then did one of his own songs "The March". His contagious smile, reminded me of a young Magic Johnson. His enthusiasm was catching. He and Buddy were quite a combo. So I bought this CD thinking it was a blues CD, which it really isn't. I feel, he is a more energetic, Dave Mathews Band type. I have rated this a 3, simply, because in my arena, it doesn't match up. If you're looking for non-blues, and an "amped" up Dave Mathews type, this is for you. I must say that, the opening song, "Ted's Jam", cooks! When I listen to this while I'm on the treadmill, I almost run off the front of the treadmill. The aforementioned, "The March", is also a stomping good music experience. The other songs, are a little too dragged out, and lose their punch, even with "Cousin Danyel". Summary: If you're looking for true blues, this is not for you. If you're looking for Dave Mathews on steroids, this will fit your prescription.
ONE OF A KIND, IN THIS DAY & AGE.......2007-01-15
They just don't make musicians like Robert Randolph anymore. This CD is incredible, hasn't left the car for 6 weeks. It has quickly become my favorite in my collection. Robert Randolph brings back times of sheer, unadulterated pleasure when it comes to music. Phenomenally moving. I wish I had a greater vocabulary, the better to impart to you just how INCREDIBLE this cd is.....

Tribal metamorphosis/Pentaphobe.......2007-03-19
Fantastic.I came across this being a Rachel Brice fan.I am now a total Pentaphobe fan as well. It's totally different to any thing one gets accustomed to hearing relating to bellydance. Its addictive and it's fresh and hypnotic.Fantastic buy.
Wow.......2007-02-18
This is really great for Tribal. I've only seen the performance pieces for two of the songs, but the rest are also much fun to play with. I listened to it over and over when I first got it and go back to it when I want a really great mood setter for a performance. I want more!
Pentaphobe.......2007-01-17
This CD was just what I was looking for!
It has a mysterious tone and steered away from the more traditional glittzy Belly Dance music.
not so good..........2006-11-17
I was very disappointed with this c.d. The only good songs on it are the ones that Rachael dances to on the Bellydance Superstars DVD. It's alot of industrial noise with no melody. If you're looking for music to do interperative dance to, check it out. If you're looking for something upbeat and inspiring, you might want to pass.
An Amazing Music CD.......2006-11-10
I really like this music CD. All the music is so amazing.
If you love Tribal Belly Dancing, you will love this CD.

Oh My God!.......2007-05-02
To say that Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac is an understated jewel in the blues/rock world is too dismissive. They have a raw energy that could only be matched by only a few, and I can't really even think of who they are. I got Then Play On when I was 15 in 79. I have replaced the album 3 or 4 times, and still listen to it at least once a month. It is a staple in my home, car, and ipod.
I have heard, but not owned Albatross, and somewhere have two Peter Green cassette tapes. I never heard them live. What a shallow existance I have lived. I just got Live in Boston 1 and 2 today (from Amazon) and can not beleive what I am hearing. Truely some of the greatest music I have ever heard.
If you know the early works of Fleetwood Mac or Peter Green, then this is the creme de la creme. Words can not describe how absorbing the music is. I am addicted to Jam Bands (the Dead, Garcia, moe., the cheese...) and see many similarities, but mellower and bluesier.
Buy it, listen to it, fall in love with the lost art of Fleetwood Mac / Peter green et al.
Absolutely, Positively UNBELIEVABLE.......2005-04-12
This is impossible to describe in words. It defies logic. It's like asking to describe Pearl Harbor in words. It can't be done. But I will try.
This is, simply put, the most raw, intense blues-rock ever recorded. The original Fleetwood Mac. Sure, the later lineup was cool with "The Chain" and all that, but this is something else. This is pure, unbridled jamming with a capital 'J'. These performances are so intense, so rocking and so devastating that it seems futile to even compare anything else to it. Peter Green and Danny Kirwan are amazing individually. But when they actually duel and play together, it's beyond description. Case in point - "Like It This Way". Easily the most ass-kicking blues rocker I've ever heard in my life. This is a boogie that's sure to blow your mind, believe me. The groove is intoxicating, and the duelling of Green/Kirwan on this song is so good it almost reduced me to tears. You thought Duane Allman and Dickey Betts were good? Forget it, Green and Kirwan blow them out of the water. No question. In fact, the Allmans in general could not compete with Mac's jams on this album. Don't say I didn't warn you.
One listen to this version of "Black Magic Woman" and you'll be saying "Santana who?". Green's tone here is stunning, and the second half is a boogie where he and Kirwan battle it out again. Frightening stuff.
"Jumping At Shadows" is a unique cover of a blues classic. Awesome melody.
Already mentioned "Like It This Way". It's enough to tear the roof off TWO buildings!
"Only You" has a very unusual melody and riff, almost Dick Dale-ish surf rock. Great song though.
And then you have a 25-minute "Rattlesnake Shake" that takes you to places you never knew existed. Unreal. An improv jam that defies normality. If that's not enough, I've heard that the version on Volume 2 is even BETTER!! I shudder to think...
"I Can't Hold Out" features Jeremy Spencer joining in on slide guitar, and he's damn good at it. Most people don't seem to care for his Elmore James schtick, but this guy can really play, believe me.
"Got To Move" is the only song here that isn't amazing. It's not bad, though.
"Green Manalishi" really can't be categorized. Part psychedelic, part blues, it's interesting. Also features Green playing some killer six-string bass at the end.
If you haven't already noticed, this album is breath-taking. It also has the most amazing sound quality I've ever heard on a live album. It literally sounds like you're there in the front row, watching these guys tear the house down.
Better than Allmans, better than Grateful Dead, and at least equal to Cream. This is the Holy Grail of blues-rock jamming.

Amazon.com's Best of 1998
Who'd have dreamed that Nick Lowe, one-time New Wave smart aleck at large, would reemerge in the '90s as a soulful balladeer? And yet 1998's Dig My Mood is a splendid study in moody, bar-time reverie, as is the lost treasure that is its predecessor, The Impossible Bird. The onetime hit man (remember "Cruel to Be Kind"?) may not have rediscovered the commercial base he'd once accumulated, but, against the odds, he's making the finest albums of his lengthy career. --Steven Stolder
Amazon.com
Three decades on, Nick Lowe has evolved from British pub-rock pioneer (with Brinsley Schwarz) to new wave godfather (producing Elvis Costello, among others) to postrock crooner. It's a surprising but convincing transformation, begun with the country-inflected minimalism of 1994's superb The Impossible Bird and pared to an even leaner chamber pop on this subdued charmer. Bird found Lowe damping his jokester's instincts to dig deeply and soberly into romantic despair and a gnawing, midlife confrontation of self. While the tracks on Dig My Mood suggest that some of the wounds have healed, there's still an elegiac air to songs like "Faithless Lover," "What Lack of Love Has Done," and "Failed Christian" that qualifies these as songs of experience. Lowe's baritone has deepened and acquired a deft finesse with redeeming glimmers of wit and no loss of intelligence. --Sam Sutherland
Customer Reviews:
A Superb Composer.......2007-02-07
this recording is a long Meddle of San Tropez by Pink Floyd , just wonderful songs ... Can't wait to hear the Impossible Bird ...
More Torch, Less Twang.......2005-03-17
Three and a half stars compared to Impossible Bird. Expecting the twang of that masterpiece, I was initially disappointed in Dig My Mood. But a few spins persuaded me, in particular the songs Faithless Lover, Lonesome Reverie, Man That I've Become and Cold Grey Light Of Dawn.
The sound at first appears to be of the Jim Reeves style of country, but there is definitely a lounge element. You Inspire Me, for example, is a jazzy number, balanced out by the uptempo country-pop of What Lack Of Love Has Done with its gently lilting melody.
The brooding Failed Christian is a sad, moving song with sympathetic backing, whilst the rhythmic uptempo Man That I've Become with its lovely tune is coloured blue by the exquisite organ. This being the closest to the sound of Impossible Bird, it is my favorite on the album.
Freezing is another jazzy excursion, and is followed by the uplifting High On A Hilltop, another tuneful song with exquisite guitar infusions. Lead Me Not has a gospel feel with Nick in a different voice. The album concludes with the soulful rhythmic ballad Cold Grey Light Of Dawn.
Dig My Mood is another gem by this talented artist. The lyrics and the melodies are gripping and although I miss the twang of that other album, the organ here more than makes up for it. Nick Lowe is a highly accomplished musician and songwriter with a consistent output of quality music; I hope he gets more recognition one day.
good nick lowe.......2004-08-03
Lead Me Not is a great song. So is Faithless Lover a great dichotomy-faithless lover there is no other. This should have won some awards. Failed Christian is really as true as you can get.
I Dug It, You Will Too.......2002-08-08
I'll be honest, I miss the rollickin, rockin good time smart alec that Nick Lowe once was (check out PARTY OF ONE or COWBOY OUTFIT) but whatever he does, he does it well. Lowe has ever been a bit of a musical chameleon, that was rather the point of JESUS OF COOL, after all. Once upon a time, he did British Invasion pop with Kippenton Lodge (see HENS TEETH by Brinsley Schwarz) then he did Byrds style country rock and psychedelia (early Brinsley Schwarz) and then he did country, pub and rockabilly solo and with Rockpile. Here he has transformed himself into a soulful lounge singer who actually has a soul. Few performers could pull off so many styles and stay true to their muse, but the Basher is a master. Best tracks are `Failed Christian', `What Lack Of Love Has Done', `Man That I've Become' and especially `Faithless Lover'. All are heartfelt, moving songs with a quiet intensity that Nick has hinted at for years (check out `You Make Me' from LABOR OF LUST or 'Heart' on NICK THE KNIFE) but which really came to the fore with the excellent IMPOSSIBLE BIRD. Here the transformation is complete. I'll admit, it took me a while to get into this album, since it was so different from most of his earlier output, but every Nick Lowe gets better with repeated listening. That is what makes him a genius.
Gamble paid off........2001-09-15
I had heard an interview with N.L. on NPR and I bought this album without really knowing what to expect. I listen to this album all the time and even though I've since gotten more N.L., this is my favorite. It is swanky, mellow and witty.

Album Description
Nekromantix are quite simply the premier psychobilly band in the world. Founded in 1989, over the course of six albums (three in the US), Nekromantix have inspired a generation of rockabilly and psychobilly bands, earned a Grammy nod, and spawned the immensely popular side project Horrorpops, who have scanned over 80,000 CDs in their own right. Now comes Life Is A Grave And I Dig It!!!, a return to the raw, driving sound of early classics like Return of the Loving Dead. Anchored by leader Kim Nekroman's thumping upright bass, Life Is A Grave And I Dig It!!perfectly delivers on Alternative Press' description of the band as "a 1950s date with Motorhead." With a headlining national tour out of the box - the 2007 incarnation of the wildly successful Hellcat tour - and a world-wide following from extensive touring in Japan, the US, and Europe, Nekromantix will continue to lead the pack, all the way to the boneyard!
Customer Reviews:
Great MUSIC.......2007-06-16
This is my favorite psychobilly album by a long shot. It has more catchy hooks than their older albums, but does not seem to lose anything in the psycho department. I LOVE this album and I know more people would as well if they had only heard of the band. Give these guys, especially this album, a chance!
rock and roll.......2007-06-11
just seen these guys in chicago and the show was great, i like there older stuff better, but there is nothing that i have bad to say about this cd either.
straight up rock and roll
if you ever get a chance to see these guys live do it!!!!!!
Eh...........2007-05-20
I dunno about this one.
The album displays a more rockabilly themed songs compared to Nekromantix's other albums. I'm not saying the songs are bad, I'm just saying they lack a cetain attitude and power to the songs due to the guitar. If your into more rockabilly than pick this CD up, but if you are looking for their old type of music then you might want to pass.
A Masterpiece.......2007-05-15
This album tops everything that Nekromantix has ever done! It is a wet dream for anyone who loves the upright bass. They spend a lot of money making a microphone that fits inside the bass, to give it a great sound for the album. I never thought it would be possible, but I actually think that Nekroman's playing skills have gotten better. This album has a slower pace than all the previous albums, and that is not a bad thing at all. If you like the upright bass, this is a great album... If you play the upright bass, you HAVE TO GET THIS ALBUM. You can hear the bass notes much clearer, and the whole set is synchronized, and the set is tighter than ever.
If you are looking for something along the lines of DEMENTED ARE GO, then do NOT get this album... But if you want to hear something that is good or requires talent then go with this album.
Yes, I did say that DEMENTED ARE GO has no talent.
And NO, they are not "More Psycho" because they groan into the microphone and do their best to sound like monsters, or because they have more gruesome lyrics... They try so hard to be extra psycho that they no longer concentrate on writing good songs but writing songs that make them psychobilly!
If you have any questions I would be glad to answer them by email at
tcupp@recupp.com
On behalf of Texas DeathRow Merch
I'm Travis Cupp, and that concludes my review!
triumphant return of the psychobilly masters.......2007-05-13
Different, but still very good album from one of the greats in the psychobilly scene. Solid release makes up for their semi-disappointing Dead Girls Don't Cry.

Awesome.......2005-12-14
The Live in Boston 3 volulme set is a reissue that has been remastered from the original 8 track master tapes. I almost bought the original releases some years ago but passed up on it after reading about the poor sound quality. I'm glad I waited for this reissue because the sound quality is awesome. Volume II rattles and shakes! The version of Rattlesnake Shake on Volume II is better than on Volume I and that is saying a heck of a lot. Buy all 3 volumes and you'll be happy you did.
The guitar jamming is so fine .... the interplay between Kirwin and Green and the underated slide work of Jeremy Spencer on these live perfomamces makes it clear why Fleetwood Mac in the late 60s and early 70s were the best live performing band of this genre ... better than the Stones, the Who or anyone else playing electric blues based music. Buy them, take em home or put them on your car stereo, crank it up and boogie.
BOSTON TEA PARTY!.......2005-06-07
This Album, together with LIVE IN BOSTON VOL.1 and VOL.3, contains most of the tracks originally intended for release as a live album by Fleetwood Mac. This was one of a number of projects curtailed by the sudden departure from the band of Peter Green in April 1970. The recording was done at the Tea Party Club in Boston whilst the band was on it's second American tour in 1969.
Of particular interest in this set are the rock'n roll cuts ("Keep A Knocking" and "Jenny Jenny" on VOL.2, "Great Balls Of Fire" and "Tutti Frutti" on VOL.3) performed by 'Earl Vince & the Valiants' - a pseudonym for a gold lamé suited Mac fronted by Jeremy Spencer - and a tongue-in-cheek tribute to their rock forebears. Contrasted with this are the straight Chicago style blues that were the band's hallmark ("Madison Blues" and "Got To Move" on VOL.3, "Red Hot Mama" and "The Sun Is Shining" on VOL.2) highlighted by some of Peter Green's last and greatest songs ("Oh Well" and "Rattlesnake Shake" on VOL.2, "Green Manalishi" on VOL.1) with Fleetwood Mac. Highly recommended!
