Excellent music but missing a few treasures.......2007-07-02
Although the score for Pride and Prejudice was fantastic, there were even more songs that I wish had been included on this disc"
My favorite part was Lizzy playing the piano at Pemberly: Voi Che Sapete from the Marriage of Figaro. I also loved the Netherfield Ball dances with Mr. collins and Mr. Darcy: The Shrewsbury Lasses and Mr. Beveridge's Maggot. (these are very difficult to find anwhere and I especially loved the arrangement in the movie. I would have loved to have a recording of these). Grimstock played by Mary at the Phillips Christmas Party is also a favorite. Also, Andante Favore by Beethoven played by Georgiana at Pemberly. Fortunatly, these are easily found on popular online music sites.
ambiance.......2007-06-06
c'est un pur plaisir de revivre cette série que j'adore en écoutant la bande son. une ambiance "austenante" !
The perfect music for Jane Austen's TV adaptation.......2007-05-13
I was very happy to receive this CD which is not sold in France. When I listen to the music, I can imagine the exact moment it corresponds in the film. I like very much the opening title music
Carl Davis's Music is excellent and permit to translate the sense of a small town at this period and the fortepiano produces a unique and fascinating sound, quite different from that oh the modern instrument.
This CD is a good choice for the fans of the series.
Background Music.......2007-03-14
The soundtrack is fabulous. I now have it as the only disc in my car, and I listen to it on both short daily trips and long "coastal" trips.
Pride and Prejudice Sound track.......2007-03-13
This sound track is lovely-- great to listen to, well produced and is very soothing. The Piano Summaries played by Melvyn Tan on the fortepiano capture the time the series was set in. Loved IT!!!!!

Middle of the road wedding music.......2007-01-20
I bought this cd because I had everything in my wedding planned to the last tiny detail except the ceremony music. All the songs on the cd are nice traditional wedding songs. I did not use any of the music from the cd, but I am glad I bought it because it helped me realize that traditional wedding music was not what I wanted. All and all a nice classical music cd but not for brides who really want a personal ceremony. BTW I went with Enya and Lorena McKennitt.
just what I was looking for.......2007-01-10
We wanted traditional wedding music and found it in this CD. I'm no music expert, but the arrangements and performances seemed fine. I would definitely recommend this CD for any bride looking for a concise collection of traditional wedding pieces.
Most Chosen Selections.......2006-03-13
As a wedding officiant, my wife and I are often asked to assist the couple with other services for their ceremony, such as music. For this, we have a very large selection in our music library to choose from. We have put together a catalog of cd's that we loan out to the couple for their review, and most often, their selections come from BRIDE'S GUIDE TO WEDDING MUSIC.
If you're planning a traditional or formal wedding on a budget, this cd has it all. There are even two selections of Wagner's "Wedding March" to choose from. Only two of the selections have vocals, the rest are all extraordinary instrumental selections.
Often, even around the house or in my car, I find myself listening to this cd. The music is soothing, refreshing, uplifting and most enjoyable. I recommend this cd over all other wedding music cd's.
Another Great Reference CD.......2006-01-09
This is a great compilation, CD, along with Bride's Guide to Wedding Music Volume 2, to use as a reference for some of the more popular wedding songs; just about everything on here is standard fare for weddings. All of the musicians are generally superb, and the sound quality is very good. However, this is most useful if you are playing the CD at your wedding, or using it as a reference CD to talk over potential music selections with an organist, a string quartet, etc. Like my review for Volume 2, I only gave it four stars based on practicality, not on quality. If it were just quality, I would give it five stars. I purchased this CD since I am in the process of making my own wedding CD (I am a professional, freelance violinist), and this was nice to listen to, even just as background music for dinner. BTW: beware of reviewers who don't use their names, especially "A music fan." This is most likely the producer of the "Wedding Traditions" CD and he slanders other CDs so his will look better. You'd think that in the wedding music business people would have better ethics, but unfortunately, that's not always the case. The best advice I can give, as a classical musician myself, if to take time to listen to the sound clips, and if possible, try to find them on iTunes where they might sound higher quality. This is the only real way of knowing whether the CD is right for you.
A Nice CD.......2005-12-30
This is a very nice CD.
Our daughter used some of the songs on this CD
and some of the songs that are on the
"Classical Wedding Traditions" CD for the wedding.
She also used many of the songs on the
"New Wedding Traditions Volume I" CD
Amazon is a great place to find good wedding music

Film Focus (The non score music edition).......2006-08-21
Okay, I'll admit that this review may seem high, but only if you're not an Angel fan. I think that this is their best overall album and truly enjoy most of the songs. There are times I wish they would lower the range of the music and vocals because at times it seems as if the band is playing the notes too high and the vocalist has to scream the lyrics to keep up. But for the most part, this is a good Summer album for driving around and remembering high school. And hey, what can you say about the cover art featuring a bunch of tall skinny white guys in spandex?
Very cool!
The most underrated band ever. .......2006-03-14
I agree with the reviewer that would give all of their albums 5 stars (Sinful only gets 4) so I must be biased too. I bought White Hot when it first came out when I was 10. I rocked out to it constantly and it ended up being one of my favorite albums of all time. It still is. I'm now middle aged and I still rock out to it and always will. I saw them live back in 1978 and I still have memories of what a terrific concert it was. I never understood why they didn't get extremely popular. I want to thank them for all of the great music and the hard work that they put into it. There are those of us that appreciate it.
Angel - 'White Hot' (MCA).......2006-03-05
Originally released in 1978,this was Angel's fifth album.Overall,it's decent glam/glitter heavy rock.Always heard that with the RIGHT promotion,Angel could've easily been one of the '70's greats.Guess we'll never really know.Cuts that sort of made me sit up and take some notice were "Don't Leave Me Lonely",the Rascal's cover "Ain't Gonna Eat Out My Heart Anymore",their ballad "Flying With Broken Wings(Without You)" and "You Could Lose Me".Could appeal to open-minded fans of Cheap Trick,Status Quo,Kiss and possibly even Aerosmith or Van Halen. Can't go wrong with this title's price, that's for sure.
Late 70's Cheese Rock at it's Best!.......2004-10-10
(...) Angel wasn't about exploding rock conventions by playing 3 chord rock songs badly. They pretty much held up rock conventions by playing well-crafted arena rock tunes with competance and flair. Gee, what a crime.
I really like this album. Songs like "Don't Leave Me Lonely" and "Over and Over" are prime examples of 70's pop meets "boot up your ass" rock with plaintive vocals. "Got Love if You Want It" shows that these guys can actually play, and rock out hard (drummer Barry Brandt kicks ass, by the way). Stuff like "Ain't Going to Eat Out My Heart Anymore" is a muscular re-invention of an obvious influence (The Rascals), and "Flying With Broken Wings" is a wonderfully melodic nod to the Fab Four. If you're a fan of synth-sweetened 70's arena rock, this album should be at the top of your list.
Sticky Sweet.......2004-05-04
Yeah!! The rockin' melodies of this band make me want to throw up--throw up my hands in the air and boogie down!! Seriously, though; this is great 70s rock. What great rock and roll! I love the songs, "Stick Like Glue" and "Under Suspicion," (the latter song's got a great beat and some RIGHTEOUS screaming!). Of course, the first two songs are just about the greatest openers of any album I own. Those Giuffria chords starting off "Don't leave me lonely" are magnificent! Then the classic "Ain't gonna Eat Out my Heart Anymore" is just perfectly cool. Punky Meadows is one of the great underrated rock guitarists. One final note is that the album art rox.

Customer Reviews:
Flawed version of a wonderful comic opera.......2004-01-25
Source: Studio version recorded at Abbey Road in 1978.
Sound: Good stereo.
Documentation: Short essay on the creation "Don Pasquale". Keyed plot summary. Track list. Photographs of the conductor and the four major singing principals. Italian-English libretto. Nothing on the production (except that it was recorded in the 13th month of 1978, a statement that I regard as unlikely in the extreme.) Nothing on the perfomers.
Beverly Sills is the main draw here. Her vocal agility is quite dazzling and full of good humor. Alfredo Krauss sings his part brightly and cleanly. Had anyone asked me when this cast was being assembled, Donald Gramm would have been just about last on my list for the role of old Pasquale but he makes a valiant stab at it. Alan Titus provides a workmanlike Malatesta, although his voice lacks the sheer beauty do do full justice to his big aria, "Bella siccome un angelo". The LSO sounds fine and is nicely captured.
That said, I feel impelled to add that whatever its virtues, this performance is missing much. When I played the ancient Schipa-Saraceni recording for comparison, it became instantly clearly what was most missing. In the dimly captured sound of seventy years ago comes full measure of what is hardly on the 1978 set at all--a sense of fun.
"Don Pasquale" was created as a trifle, a mere moneymaker, while Donizetti (largely fruitlessly) wooed success and prestige at the Paris Opera. It is loosely based on a veteran buffa piece called "Ser Marcantonio". Donizetti gave the stock comic characters of the older comedy slightly more depth and updated them into bright, new 19th Century forms, setting them to a mix of his old and new tunes in so brief time as to astonish us still. "Don Pasquale", the opera, was created out of old fluff and fully intended to be new fluff. When Don Pasquale, the comic old geezer, is struck on the cheek by Norina, the soubrette, the cheek should hurt--but that cheek should also be attached to a head solidly packed with feathers.
The Saraceni and Schipa of seventy years ago float like butterflies over the loveliest and livliest of melodies, delighting us with the sheer pleasure of it all. In the newer set Sills is clearly having fun for herself, but rather too cruelly at the expense of Donald Gramm's sympathetic old Pasquale. Titus' Dr. Malatesta comes over as more schemer than jokester. The big cross-purposes duet of Don Pasquale and Dr. Malatesta is performed efficiently, but wholly without hilarity. Krauss as Ernesto is . . . earnest throughout.
I think that in the very earliest stages of preparation for this performance a choice was made to emphasize musical values over comedy, hence the heavy overlay of decoration placed upon Sills' music. The decorations are sung beautifully--none better at this than Sills!--but at the cost of obscuring lovely little melodies that would have been better in their simplicity. Another result was the deadening of Pasquale and Malatesta's big, show-stopper of a duet into almost hum-drum conversation.
Caldwell's conducting is a problem area. To my ear, the 1978 recording is a group of set-pieces, one after another, without dramatic propulsion or performing arc. This is in marked contrast to the older version's definite sense of continuous forward motion. The contrast is all the more marked when one remembers that seventy years ago, technology demanded that the opera be recorded in very short takes.
Finally there is the incredibly dumb decision to perform Com'e gentil, the best-known aria in the opera so far off-mike. What WERE they thinking about?
This is a performance deeply flawed by production and conducting decisions. It is unworthy of the fine talents that the singers might otherwise have brought to it. It is not even slightly comparable in quality with the ancient but wonderful Schipa-Saraceni set or even with the appallingly recorded but marvelously performed Corena-Peters-Valetti set.
I can recommend it only to those who value the mechanics of sound reproduction over performance and to those more interested on the singing of individual numbers than the operatic whole.
Fun!.......2002-06-26
This is not one of my most favorite comic operas, but it does have many fine moments in it. This recording brings out all of the fun one needs to have a really good time. Donald Gramm is in fine voice, very buffo and agile. Titus is good as well, and it's nice to have such a fine voice in a smaller role. Kraus is not one of my most favorite tenors. Everyone says how elegant he is; yet I have several recordings of him swooping up to high notes and then emitting effortful grunts as he lets go. Not elegant. However, here, he's fine and sings with sweet tone (for him) with very few fearsome squawks.
Sills is in magnificent voice for this stage of her career. She is in better voice here than several recordings made a few years earlier. She is so vivacious and her bubbliness is contagious! Her little laughs in her first aria are charming and intensely funny. I must for Sills fans.
Compare this to the slightly dull Muti recording with (my favorite) Mirella Freni. Muti keeps everyone on such a tight reign that, though the fun is there, just not the effervescence of this performance.
Love it!

This Album is Too Short!.......2007-03-03
Here is a great debut album by one of the top 5 Women of Country Music; my only complaint is that it's too short! This album introduced a "traditional" female voice to country music in a time when most of the Country Music ladies were imitating the squalling of Crystal Gayle or the overhyped Roseanne Cash. Patty seemed to covertly add the heart and soul of Kentucky with modern (yet genuine) country music....and surprise, surprise, it was a hit. And, while Patty did occasionally veer off the "traditional" path now and again, she always came back to her roots. This CD contains 10 fine songs, including the popular "Timber, I'm Falling in Love", and "Dont Toss us Away". However, her finest are "I Wont Gamble with Your Love" and "I'll Never Grow Tired of You". Highly recommended. A+
The album that really got her career going.......2004-02-18
I became a fan of Patty's from her very first album, but it was this (third) album that established her as a serious contender in country music. The album is filled with excellent songs, demonstrating Patty's ability to sing ballads and up-tempo songs equally effectively. Already revered in the music business on the strength of her first two albums, Patty was able to secure the services of Vince Gill, Rodney Crowell and bluegrass singer Claire Lynch as backing vocalists on this album, with Vince appearing on five tracks. The overall style is typical of the late eighties - more country sounding that Patty's recordings of the mid-nineties but more pop sounding than Mountain soul.
The album yielded several country hits including Chains, Don't toss us away and Timber I'm fall falling in love. Blue side of town opens the album in great style. Although the title may suggest a sad ballad, it is in fact an up-tempo song about solving problems by have a few drinks. Next comes another upbeat song, I won't gamble with your love, followed by a couple of excellent ballads, Go on and If you think. The remainder of the album is made up of the big hits plus several more wonderful songs.
If you enjoy country music of the late eighties, you should enjoy this album.
What a voice!.......2004-01-06
Patty Loveless have a sensual voice like no other. And when she sings with Vince Gill on "Timber, I'm Falling in Love", it is sensational!
This Honky Tonk Angel doesn't forget her country roots.......2003-06-01
At times throughout the years, I have had brief flirtations with modern-day country music, and on these infrequent occasions I have been drawn to those singers who have a discernible trace of old-school country in them. Patty Loveless is one such artist, a female vocalist with the twang and the bluegrass type of sound my nascent country tastes require. Sure, you've got your electric guitar and drums here too, but the good old fiddle and mandolin make their presence known quite strongly in a number of tracks. I have another connection of sorts with Patty Loveless; while I have never met her, she was at one time a waitress in my home town. I think I discovered her when she performed Timber I'm Falling in Love on Hee Haw, and that song is one of those catchy, upbeat songs that stay in your head for quite awhile. Chains was another hit song of the same ilk, and I Won't Gamble With Your Love makes a strong play for best song on the album. Of course, any country singer has to do a few moaning songs about the sadder things in life, and Loveless proves herself more than capable of singing slow, melancholy ballads full of real feeling. Blue Side of Town and The Lonely Side of Love are nice tracks, but If You Think, Don't Toss Us Away, and I'm On Your Side really distinguish themselves as maudlin ballads of great merit. Many country fans might be interested in knowing that Vince Gill, before he was a superstar, lent strong backup vocals to five of the songs on this album. I haven't followed country music or Patty Loveless at all in the years since this album was released in 1988, but Honky Tonk Angel certainly stands as one of the more impressive female country albums released during the late 1980s.
Hit-Packed Effort.......2002-03-20
Probably the most complete country music package of her day, combining shy, Kentucky innocence with a stinging tenor, Patty Loveless' third MCA effort finally wrangled the immense commercial success predicted for her, and the hits here, Kostas' Buddy Holly-flavored "Timber, I'm Falling In Love," "Don't Toss Us Away," and "Chains" established her as a bona fide country music star. There are also several gems which weren't released as singles: "Blue Side of Town" (performed on the David Letterman show,) and Kevin Welch's masterful "I Won't Gamble With Your Love." Loveless sticks to her guns and delivered 2 Top Ten hits, her first #1, and a garnered a boatload of fans eager to hear more.

The song they were dancing to.......2004-08-13
I think the song you were thinking of is "In a sentimental mood" by Duke Ellington and John Coltrane. I wish they would have put that on the soundtrack! Hope this helps.
The song Jim Plays.......2004-06-10
The song that jim plays IS Nature Boy by Jon Hassell with Ronu Majumdar as it is on the Soundtrack. If your trying to find it off the soundtrack, theres a couple different versions by him so you'll have to weed through them. I finally found it after about 2 hours of searching..
The song Jim played........2004-01-12
The song that Jim played is Nature Boy. Various artists have done their own renditions of this tune.
Re: Jazz Tune.......2004-01-01
I think the song jim played on the trumpet was called "nature boy" by Grover Washington
Mixed Up.......2003-12-19
J-Lo & Jim Caviezel danced to "In a Sentimental Mood" by Duke Ellington, then Jim played "If I Should Lose You" by Nina Simone.

SIMPLY STUNNING!.......2005-03-27
With a powerful, stunning voice Mrs. Walker captures the listeners heart from the first note she sings. Her personal emotions come through on every track! I am sitting here, waiting patiently, for her next masterpiece!!!
Tamara Walker- Angel Eyes ( 2002 ).......2003-12-24
DESCRIPTION: A mix of rock-pop, electronic pop & country rock. Bordering the thresholds of easy listening because of the smooth contained vocal approach. The album tapered from the early atmospheric sounds of ANGEL EYES. Into the light sounds of the orchestration and piano of BRING BACK MY HEART. When the third track revealed itself as a rock oriented pop number called CIRCLE OF LOVE, I knew this would be a line-up that didn't quite have a primary focus other than a gentle somewhat luring sound. By the end of the album you began hearing signs of country in the music, lyrics & Tamara's vocal style. All these changes throughout didn't hinder a relative consistency not only of it's gentle tones but a respectable quality in melodic perseverance. Two songs that stood out were BRING BACK MY HEART & IF ONLY which displayed a recording technique that should be used more often in female pop & country vocals. The vocal verses were up close and personal while the chorus displayed a higher octave but was set further in the mix as not to dominate the overall sound of the song. The only real weakness I thought was the last track which was a remix of ANGEL EYES. The remix was with a faster tempo but didn't have the atmosphere the original track had. The 9 track E.P like release was a bit surprising to me because of the fact that it did have some quality and because I usually find it in the country section. I don't know that country is the dominating trait in this production. POINTS: ( 2.83 ) - GRADE ( B )
Great First Album, Can't wait for the Follow up!!!!!.......2002-10-04
She has a beautiful voice that can handle any style of music. She is a talented singer as well as song writer. Her voice is very crisp and clear with an enormous range.I've followed her since her early debut on CMT.All though I enjoyed the whole CD. I was disappointed That Angel Eyes was on there twice.I wished there been a few more songs on it also.I loved Circle of Love and If Only. Circle of Life has a catchy tune that I can't seem to get out of my head.Didn't We Love from Coyote Ugly along with Cry like Memphis are probably my next favorites. The CD is a great mix of Country and Soft Rock. I truly believe there isn't a bad song on the whole CD. I hope we see and hear lots more from her.
4 stars for Tamara and 3 stars for the producers!.......2002-09-22
Having been a fan of Tamara's since COYOTE UGLY and ANGEL EYES, I was waiting patiently for this album....now that it is here...it is both good and bad. Her voice soars with a haunting sweetness and she can deliver any song with excellent power! I am dissapointed that there are only 8 songs on the album with one remix of ANGEL EYES as the 9th track....a full length album generally has at least 10 tracks.....it is sad the producers chose to short change people on the world of Tamara Walker! One good side is that it is not the price of regularly priced cd's because of this.....the album has pop ballads and upbeat numbers with the country sounding tracks being DIDN'T WE LOVE (original version appears in COYOTE UGLY while this version has more of a beat to it......), THE STELLAR...CRY LIKE MEMPHIS (THE BEST TRACK IN MY OPINION), FALLING FOR ME, THE ONE......overall a great album from a promising talent.

Very Special Singer.......2007-06-14
That sucks that Amie died so young, before she had a chance to make more music. It's weird thinking that she wasn't even as old as I am but has been gone nearly 10 years.
Anyway, this album is really good. Amie's voice was great, with a nice Louisiana accent. Cool songs:
12 Steps Down - crunchy guitar. A guy moves into the singer's building and she is smitten by him.
Papermill Road - driving down this road is how to get to the make out spot
Other Woman - spirited uptempo number. Crunchy guitar. Singer informs other woman that she's got the man away from her, but she's going to come to regret having him, she'll have all the grief from his behavior now.
House of Fallen Angels - tells a good, moving story
Talented country singer who might have been a star.......2005-01-13
It appears that Amie (born December 4, 1976) had all the qualities required to make it big in country music. We will never know whether she would have done because she died soon after her twenty-first birthday while this album was nearing completion. Amie hoped that this, her second album, would be good enough to impress the major labels in Nashville sufficiently for her to secure a recording contract with one of them. That wouldn't have guaranteed success (as many others have found out) but it would have given her a chance.
On this album, Amie sings ten songs that showcase her ability to sing a variety of songs, both ballads and up-tempo. The style is contemporary country but should appeal to some traditional country fans too, as the instruments include steel guitar, twelve string, fiddle and harmonica. Despite Amie's Louisiana heritage, the album does not show any Cajun influences.
Jim Beauhall, the producer, co-wrote all the songs except Twelve steps down (a great song about a man who supposedly lives twelve steps down from Amie) and Paper mill road (a song about past memories). Amie co-wrote two of the songs, these being When you smile at me (a brilliant song that opens the album) and The other woman, a feisty song in which she makes her opinion very clear to the other woman, who now faces the same problem with the philandering man.
Amie was surely very pleased with the ten songs that she had recorded by December 21, 1997. On that ill-fated day, she was driving along a road, hit a patch of ice and skidded to her death. As a tribute to Amie, one more song was added to the album and became its title track. Among the five singers who sang on this track, four are otherwise unknown to me but I recognize Lisa Stewart, who recorded one major label album (which I've reviewed) before returning to the obscurity from whence she came. It is a very moving song and I'm sure that all who knew Amie appreciate it, though I can imagine that there will be others who find it all too much. All the songs are great but my favorites among the others are A single crimson rose, Anywhere with you and This dream.
Because Amie was unable to promote the album, even local radio stations in Louisiana showed only limited interest in it, which is unfortunate. This album is one of the best country albums that you are likely to find on a small independent label.
A very special CD.......2001-04-18
Listening to this CD is so bittersweet. Knowing that Amie never had a chance to see it released or have a hand in choosing exactly which songs would be on it makes you treasure what she left behind even more. I'm only hoping that the other songs that didn't get put on this CD will someday find their way on a third Amie Comeaux album. She deserves it and so do we for her voice is truly that of one very special angel. I also very highly recommend her first album Moving Out. Its become one of my favorite CD's. Rest in Peace Amie.
Touching...Sweet...Sensitive.......2001-01-29
I had never heard of Amie until my friend next door put this C.D. on, at which point I said,"Who is that? What a Beautiful Voice!" Even if you are not a big fan of Country music, you would love this. I love the song, "The Other Woman" and "When Spirts Walk." If you are still not sure, download some of the clips that are given, and trust me, you won't even have to think twice.
Wonderful, a shining star lost too soon.......2000-03-31
I have both of Amie's CD. The first is very good. A Very Special Angel is fantastic. It really showed how much Amie had grown as a singer. Her voice was much stronger. The songs are beautiful. "Anywhere With You" and "A Single Crimson Rose" give me goose bumps. I would recommend this CD to everyone.
