About the Artist
Beginning with his first independent recording, The Nightowl, in 1987, keyboardist/composer Gregg Karukas has been one of the few artists whose own creative growth and commercial success perfectly parallels that of the smooth jazz genre as a whole. His string of Top 5 radio hits include Key Witness (1991), Sound of Emotion ('92), Summerhouse (#1 Gavin in '93) and his breakout major label debut Blue Touch, which rose to #4 on the Radio & Records airplay chart.

The first time I heard this CD I liked it. The second time I listened I really started to get into it and to enjoy the gift that Idina Menzel wants to share. A powerful voice with vunerable lyrics. It's a great combination!!!

Why is Idina Menzel's name not splashed on the covers of magazines? She's got the looks, she's got the connections(hello, ultra famous husband?) and she's got the talent-ten times more than any simpleton on the music scene right now.
A fan to the core, I admire Idina from way back in the day-Rent OBC-to the more recent projects-Wicked, Rent the movie, etc etc. and I can say that this is by far the best exhibition of her talent. Why is this not an international bestseller? This is truly beyond me.
Menzel has an incredible voice, and amazing song writing skills. The songs she sings are so full of that very Idina-y personality that you just can't get anywhere else. Who else could pull off a "Think Too Much"....genius. I've never thought about Guys in Tuxedos before listening to this song, but now that I think about it, they are kind of decieving. She has that blues-y charm and deep voice that despite what you may say would knock Shoshana Bean on her kiester and blows everyone and anyone out of the park. I highly, highly reccomend this CD for anyone who likes pop,rock,blues,jazz, broadway, or just plain talent.

This is one HECK of a first album! The songs are awesome to sing and dance to. The song that definately deserves the title of "Best Song" is a combo of "Planet Z," "Minuet," and the title song, "Still I Can't Be Still". This, and any of Idina's work, is worth getting, just to hear that VOICE!

If you love Idina Menzel in either of her major broadway roles, you will love this CD. The lyrics seem a little random, but I get the feeling, that is Idina for you. Having written all the lyrics herself, she preforms them with a passion and formiliarity, not all artist acheive. I would and have recomended this Cd to anyone who has at least heard of Idina. I love it.

I FEEL THAT THIS CD IS VERY GOOD! SOME OF THE SONGS ARE VERY EARLY 70'S SOUNDING. THERE ARE A COUPLE OF SONGS THAT IDINA SINGS THAT REALLY SHOW OFF HER VOICE!! THOSE ARE AWSOME!! IT'S A GOOD STARTER ALBUM!! I WISH IT HAD MORE SOUL SINGING SONGS, BUT VERY GOOD!

Album Description

HAMMERED is the Wicked Tinkers second CD and gets its name from the second tune on the album, "Hammer on the Anvil" (or that persistent pounding you hear listening to their drums and pipes). There are a few tunes and songs that could be considered slow and beautiful, although the Tinkers don't advocate such things. If you liked the first CD, we think you will love this one. The Wicked Tinkers say "Most tunes on this CD are from the Highlands of Scotland, where the music we love was born. A few of the tunes are Irish (Warren's heritage), who we feel are brothers to the Scots. Some tunes are Canadian (where our own John MacAdams hails from), a very Scottish place. A wee bit from Australia rounds out the lot." "We are thankful to all our fans for their support of this unusual music. It is they who help us continue."

Why on earth the Tinkers, who are otherwise terrific performers, chose to include an infantile vocal track (the kind considered risque at the elementary school level) defies the imagination....and then to repeat it in garbled form as the final track! Their first CD was a true revelation.....this one's a bummer.

If you've never been to a highland games, or never experienced Celtic music and boundless energy, listen to the Wicker Tinkers FIRST! The music is incredible, the energy and showmanship is UNBELIVEABLE. If you get a chance to see these guys play live, stop everything and GO. We bought all three CD's and am hoping for more.

My punk rocker son's comment - "Wow, I had no idea about this music. These guys are awesome."

The Wicked Tinkers represent the real spirit of the Highlands. It's not the music you hear from the pipe bands on the field. It's what you'd hear at the Caleigh afterwards. It's wild and it is [sensual]! You feel the drums in your body and hear the pipes in your soul. The addition of Wayne Belger on the didgeridoo adds a primal element that sets them apart and makes the music truly unique. Keep your eye on these boys, they're going to go all the way!

Literally! This is my all-time favourite CD to pop in and drive to! 'Radar Love' is a rollicking, drum filled sensation. And let's not forget the all time requested 'Amazing Grace/Scotland the Brave' combo! If you love pipes and drums, then Wicked Tinkers will fill your need. And if you ever get the chance to see them live, DO! Even better with new members.

I have no words to describe how much I love Karukas music, the least I can say is that I own all of Karukas CD's and they make the best of my 600+ smooth jazz CD's, please listen to "You'll know it's me" and I promise you will know Karukas "succulent" music.

This is a brilliant (but untimely) ending to a highly underrated, highly original band. This album charts the two final gigs by TPE in London and Dublin and they truly are on fire. The rhythm section is as tight as a gnat's chuff, the guitar players are one of the best partnerships ever and the vocals are truly convincing. Every track on this album is great and energetic and if you like Sonic Youth and/or britpop you will love this band. Go buy now!

After a wait of six years it was great to get the last piece of the jig-saw to my collection of my TPE's album's. I was fortunate to be at the Petrol's last concert in Dublin and when I listened to Final Flame the wonderful memories of that concert came flooding back. These guy's were pure master's of their trade with blistering guitar riff's, solid drumming, thundering bass chord's and not fogetting a voice of Steve Mack's to die for. At the end of the album the chant's of you'll never beat the petrol's to be part of the group singing that will live with me forever. Hopefully with the interest in the band the indie darlings might hit the stage again, who know's. Can't wait to get the re-mastered Babble.

'The Petrols' decided to go out with a bang during their final concerts mid 90s in Ireland/UK + .. and this album captures those moments vividly with live tracks across all albums from "Manic Pop Thrill" through to "Babble" & "End of the Millennium...."

Steve Mac screams through raw tingling guitar classics like 'Its a good thing' and 'Mouth Crazy'.. leaving a begging and often asked question.. how come the petrols had to break up... The most underrated indie band of the 80/90s by far... and this album proves that they were ahead of their time in the `Indie Movement'.

Only personal grievance is the absence of 'Swamp'.. but the 16 chosen tracks more than make up for any personal favorites for Petrols and Non Petrol fans alike.

Recommended not only through a severe prejudice for `That Petrol Emotion' the band.. but through a love of classic punkeqsue rock/pop.... Don't take a chance to miss out on a slice of what a guitar band with classic riffs and lyrics should really sound like ..

I bought this CD for one song, (as usual) so I was not disappointed when the other songs were so...... underwhelming
I enjoyed listening to Shelby Flint sing "I Keep To Myself." That did it for me. The four stars I awarded were solely for that song.

If you like good heavy melodic futurepop, Assemblage 23, 'Empires Era' VNV, Covenant, new Imperative Reaction, etc., then you will without a doubt enjoy this album. Not one of the songs here is a 'filler' track, though they are certainly floor fillers. They aren't super bouncy 145bpm tracks like Colony 5 or Apoptygma Berzerk's hits either. The melodic structure in these songs is truly... beautiful.

This album is full of great melody, a signature sound (for once), and the singer has a great clean style (I typically do not enjoy futurepop or clean vocals in general. I'm very picky about clean vocalists - they MUST be good). The lyrics themselves are OK, but it's really how he delivers them is what makes them succeed.

The music has a unique sound to it and not many futurepop bands can honestly claim this... only VNV Nation, Covenant, Gasr, and new X-Marks the Pedwalk come to mind. The samples and scales most futurepop groups put forth for their synthlines, basslines, and especially drums/snares is usually so similar I sometimes can't tell the difference between groups if it wasn't for the vocalist!

The State of the Union is Kinda EBM, kinda other stuff, defitnly industrial. Just not 100% great. Find something GREAT. Then when you have all the great stuff, come get this beucase it is only good.

Tons of percussion...tons of energy...tons of soul...that's what you're gonna hear in the fourth release from one of the most talented contemporary jazz bands around...the Connecticut-based group, Airborne. Their musical recipe, in their own words, "takes a can of straight ahead jazz with Caribbean and Latino influences, pours in a few tablespoons of jazz fusion and a heaping cup of urban street funk; then cooks all ingredients with pure technical talent till it gets boiling hot."  Precisely! You can definitely hear and feel the positive vibes on HEAVY VIBES...on every song...in every performance. This is really a cookin' album!  This band has been around since the late 80's, and has performed extensively worldwide. They've made numerous television appearances, and are heavily involved in musical education as members of the New England Foundation for the Arts' prestigious Performing Arts Roster. They're obviously a powerfully positive force for jazz, and you can't miss the quality and energy on this project.  From the intoxicating Latin percussion that kicks off track 1 ("I See") right on through each and every tune on HEAVY VIBES, you'll find yourself totally engaged in the Airborne experience.  My personal faves on this disc are "Turn Me Around," which reminds me a lot of Spyro Gyra; the soulful vocal duet, "To Be Loved"; and "A Smooth Ride" (The title says it all!). Get yourself a copy of HEAVY VIBES, and you can forget spending money on chemical mood elevators! ~Scott O'Brien

I wasn't sure if I would get this CD in the mail in time for review as it's been a few weeks since the promotion person contacted me. Upon listening, I found that they reminded me of a group in our current rotation, Wavelength, their music styles sound similar in nature. All of the musicians are very talented. On for instance is lead singer, Elizabeth Dellinger, who has a voice like R&B singer, Teena Marie. She's very soulful, especially on the track, "Trust in Love". I also enjoyed the track, "I See" where Airborne's musical style reminded me of Santana & The Rippingtons, very powerful and exhilarating. The CD does lose some of its grip on a few tracks. I wasn't too impressed with the single, "Nicole" as it sounded awkward in its vocal arraignment. Overall, it's a refreshing effort for those who like contemporary jazz vocals. Recommended.

    This album is one of the best albums I've heard, except for 2 songs which I am not a huge fan of. The first song, starting with a roaring scream, really sets the tone of the album, and the last song a ten minuted epic ends the album perfectly. This is a must have for rock fans, and if you are in the northwest definatly check out their live shows, for they are awesome!! check em out at their website.
