"Bad Boys" is an old favorite of mine. Most of you are familiar with the title track theme from "Cops." But the entire album is great and I don't skip any song.

Listen y'all, I don't know about you, but I HAVE NO INTENTION WHATSOEVER of

LISTENING TO OR SUPPORTING A REGGAE BAND THAT SELLS THEIR MUSIC (or should

I say, muzak?) TO THE COPS TV show. The hell with this band. I love reggae,

and I realize that cops are an important part of our society and culture

(they keep the peace), BUT REGGAE AND COPS?


Take a very long walk off of a short pier boys.


Inner Circle are sell outs! I feel that you, the curious and not so

knowledgable reggae purveyor, should disregard all of these five star

reviews of this band, because they are written by folks that have no

interest in true reggae, and have no clue what it is about! Call me a

reggae snob if you will, but I truly think that if you want to check out

reggae you should close this page and do a google search on " LISTMANIA,

crucial reggae". Do the work and start at a more real place. A couple of suggestion are The Congos 'Heart of the Congos', anything by Israel Vibrations, The Abyssinians, Lee Scratch Perry,...But this band will not satisfy, they are designed to be listened to by fools. Oh, wait, I'm sorry, I had no... I am sooo Embarrassed.

Really, in years to come you will be glad.


When I am at my local used CD store, I offer to smash their extra copies

(they have many) of this album for them, they think I'm kidding - I'm not.

I hate to dance, and I hate any type of music besides rock, and some rap, but this is unbeliveable.Hot beats, great rhymes, etc. just make this a great cd. Inner circle is a great SKA band, a type of music I like. I heard "Sweat", and i was just shocked, because i was singing with the song, vibing with the bass, and just feeling the music. The most popular song on this cd, is probable "Bad Boys", because it is the theme song for COPS, a great show. And that song is also a great reason to buy this cd.
Listen to the samples of "Sweat" and "Bad Boys", if you DONT like those songs, i guarantee you that you wont like this cd. But the majority of all us people, HAVE to like those songs. Another thing, why the hell isnt "Sweat" and "Bad Boys" on Inner circles Greatest Hits??? Very shocking, 'cause "Sweat", to this day, is still playing on the radio.
But if Inner Circle has me as a fan, it HAS TO BE GOOD. I like Green day, Dead Kennedys, Blink 182, and Sublime, etc., so Inner Circle isn't really in the same area as these bands, so they really stand out. And for the price, its a great buy.

Inner circle's name might not be that familiar but the track bad boys has been listed to by almost everybody in the united states from the hit tv show cops. This CD contains no offensive language, but for some parent the content in the song might not be the best for YOUNG children to listen to for some (when I got the CD I was 6) it might be a little bit frightening if you listen to the lyrics closely, but overall the cd is appropriate. I suggest that you but the CD.

I became interested in this CD primarily because I was looking for dates on which Stefon Harris appeared. I'm a huge fan of Harris's extremely intelligent composition and playing, so anybody with whom he shared company had to be remarkable. Well, here he is, working with Greg Osby and fellow sideman (and ingenious solo artist in his own right) Jason Moran. I was delighted to hear how well these artists complement each other, when any one of them could have easily overpowered the other.

This is still Greg Osby's date, of course, which is why he composed almost all of the songs, except for one by Björk and Mingus's classic "Self Portrait in Three Colors." The opening "Entruption" is a wonderfully frustrating performance, using space to give a stop-start feel, without sacrificing an implied groove. It's my favorite on the disk, rivaled only by the Mingus cover and "Fragmatic Decoding," the kind of song you'd imagine a String Theory mathematician would compose. As a non-musician, I'm simply amazed that anybody could play the dense thing.

If you are into progressive/avant-garde, yet accessible contemporary jazz, this is your disk. You will not be disappointed.

Wynton Marsalis and others have asked where the Charlie Parkers, Miles Davises, etc., are today to move jazz forward instead of keeping it frozen in time with the same old standards and styles. I think at least one answer to that question is "Greg Osby." In my opinion as a long-time jazz lover and amateur jazz pianist, Greg Osby is one of the most innovative jazz musicians to come along in many years.

On "Inner Circle," Osby has recorded fresh, exciting jazz that sounds like no one else I know, and the album bears many, many enjoyable listenings. This is, for the most part, complex, sometimes quirky, modern jazz that takes post bop a step further, yet it remains quite accessible to jazz listeners whose tastes tend a bit more toward the adventurous.

All of the tunes are originals except a gorgeous cover of Charles Mingus' "Self Portrait in Three Colors." The variety of moods and tempos is pleasantly broad, and the instrumentation fits the tunes beautifully. The contributions of vibraphonist Stefon Harris are particularly strong, I think. Osby, as always, sounds fabulous--in the pocket, creative, virtuosic.

If you are new to Greg Osby's music, this is a great place to start. I also highly recommend "Art Forum" and "St. Louis Shoes."

greg osby remains one of the best voices of the generation of players that emerged in the 1980s. he is a relentless soloist who continually pushes the boundaries of jazz without compromising the essential swing and blues of jazz. this set ranges from free to chamber jazz to bop, and does so without resorting to twenty minute workouts. the tunes are concise and fully developed allowing each new idea to get a full listen without losing the listener in improvised morass. it is "new" music--"the inner circle principle" is actually a linked series of unaccompanied solos, the opening "entruptions" is actually a set of fits and starts that is completely engaging sounding kind of like bill evans taking two second breaks while playing piano. the tunes stand alone, but taken as a set, one is given a glimpse of where jazz can go--improvised beauty that swings and dances no matter what the form. this is great work! i just wish mr. osby hadn't waited three years to release it!

Greg Osby, one American saxophone player. Prefers the alto, plays with vigour and fluency in a nuanced language best described as modern jazz. Typical label: Dry, mathematical musician. I beg to differ. Osby is probably as passionate about music as anyone.

Greg Osby is definitely a serious musical thinker with lots of fresh ideas and ways to articulate life in 2002 through the medium of acoustic music. His band members, known to serious jazz fans, relatively unkown, perhaps, to others, are just as uncompromising as the leader, and they too have somewhat original concepts of jazz in their pockets. Excellent musicians, of course. But that is never the point. This is something as rare as an original band sound.

As you can read elsewhere, this music is easy to describe as quirky, rapidly changing. Listen closely. It's all connected somehow. And it really says something about the moment we call now. The vast availability of information. Diversity. Everyone's struggling for identity. Osby seems to have it. An original voice. Be inspired. Let the music move you.

Overall, this is a great collection of mid-to-late 70s reggae (also known as "Rockers"). The only downside is the inclusion of a few songs which do not feature Jacob Miller on lead vocals. "Killer" Miller, Inner Circle's second lead singer, is one of the best voices in roots reggae. Although he died in an auto crash in 1980, Jacob Miller enjoyed much popularity in Jamaica as frontman for Inner Circle. His unique, stuttering style (also called the "bionic sound") and soulful, far-ranging vocals make him one of the most listenable and underrated Jamaican singers.

    For anyone truly interested in reggae, Jacob Miller is one of those voices, you never forget once you've heard him. The man who invented the Bionic Skank, exemplifies raw lyrical and musical strength. This album is good for beginners into Jacob's music and style, and for those who are looking to venture into a greater area of Reggae. Standout tracks: Healing of the Nation, Suzy Wong, Big Stripe. He is greatly missed.
