Album Description

JAM: Music for Movement with Children, was born out of Charity Kahn's JAM Sessions -- music and movement classes for little people and their big people. All songs have accompanying movements, and one need only read the track list to get a feel for the kind of creative play and joyful fun these songs will inspire in your kids. Themes range from animals to trains to body-as-instrument to counting to yoga to the infamous Creeper Walk. You and your kids will love to listen and move to these tunes at home, on the road, wherever...again and again and again!

Charity's beautiful voice and ingenious harmonies permeate the recording, as do the originality and insightfulness of her songwriting. Kids love the movement.......2007-03-22

I am a music teacher to children K-5, I wanted some new music for movement in my classes. ALL of the children I teach love the music on this CD. They especially love the "Creeper Walk". Music and movement are essential for growing children. Thanks to Charity Kahn.

This CD is the BEST!.......2003-12-05

This CD is my 2 year old daughters favorite music CD. She often asks for it, pointing at the stereo "jam mommy...jam jam". And not only does she like it, but i do too. unlike other kids CD's the music isn't cloying or annoying, but catchy, even to my "adult" ears. i highly recommend it! Great birthday and x-mas gift.

Pretty good, though some songs are uninteresting.......2007-02-13

Some of the songs are slow and boring, but this CD set has some stuff that's hard to find. It's probably worth $10 just for Chick Corea's song "Fickle Funk" which is on an album that is very hard to find and has to be imported (Secret Agent) and can't be found on Itunes. "Party Sex" by Roy Rogers is also very exciting and upbeat with a rippin' vibes solo, and "Hot Stuff" by Wayne Henderson has a great groove. My other two favorites are "Candido's Funk" and "Lord of the Golden Baboon" which is pretty wacko and awesome.

I am a drummer too young to be alive in the 70s, so of course I am a poor authority on 70s jazz-funk, although I do play those styles of music today. Enjoy! or get some Weather Report or Return to Forever's Romantic Warrior album or Mahavishnu Orchestra's Birds of Fire. Yeah!

cut "The Aura Will Prevail",Sea Level's grooving "Sneakers" and
Wayne Henderson's essencial "Give Up The Booty".Oh yea and there's all kinds are rare stuff by Roy Ayers,Jimmy Smith,
Hugh Masekela,Coke Escovedo and James Brown.This plus Kool & The
Gang's "Univeral Sound" make this a can't-be-without collection.
As a matter of fact if your a funk fan don't listen to any more
reviews and just pick this up!'Nuf said!

Bona fide groove fest!.......2003-09-03

Wow!! Polygram have out done themselves with this one! Their Chronicles series of re-issues has reached some giddy heights in the past and this is definitely one of the highest peaks among them. 2 CD's worth of hard to find jazz funk, including some never before issued, all guaranteed to keep fans of any kind of rare groove and dance music moving.
It would be too long and too pointless for me to go through all the tracks, but it's enough to say that there isn't a turkey among them, and that some are the sublimest examples of this kind of music you will find anywhere. And there isn't a drum machine to be heard. Sensational!

Amazing Band.......2003-03-26

Modern Groove Syndicate is flat out one of the tightest and most interesting bands around. If they got some gigs opening for bands like Soulive, MMW, or some of the other finer genre-bending bands, they could really break out big. Buy the album if you know what's good for you.

Modern Groove Syndicate's CD is smooth power with a funky, rattling groove that gets in your bones and makes 'em jump. If this CD doesn't get you movin', better check your pulse. Great for adventurous listening.

I believe this guys to have the most incredable sound ever. The quialty of sound on this album is crazy good. These guys are incredable musicians, their sound on the cd and live is really full and thick and incredablly smooth. All the instruments fit together so beautifully and it creates the most amazing sound i have ever heard. The punches in their music are my favorite part, it gives me that funny feeling inside. I recommend this mad highly becuase it is just a incredable cd.

Good moments, but sadly ho hum........2003-03-01

This record has some excellent moments showcasing the band's musical ability, but there are two serious problems. First, the sound quality is terrible. It sounds like an AUD tape, or worse, a SB patch that has been filtered through an AM radio! Whew. Very disappointing after the first few beats. Second, it's boring! Many extended jams see the band members in a groove that's so relaxed it sounds like they're on autopilot. I love this band and have seen them live, but this isn't representative. I'm desperately hoping the Brooklyn show (4/20!) will come out better.
