"This Perfect Day" represents the first solo release by singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer-engineer Bill Gable since his highly-acclaimed Private Music/BMG international release "There Were Signs" in 1989. Singled out by Billboard Magazine for its "superb lyrical imagery," selections from "There Were Signs" were featured on well over 150 AC/NAC/jazz/NPR/college stations throughout the US during the early 1990s, with a video for its single "Go Ahead And Run" reaching medium rotation on VH1. Outside the US, "There Were Signs," an album that unapologetically defied radio formats and superficial categorization, attracted an even more dedicated fan-base that exists to this day.

As with Gable's previous work, "This Perfect Day" combines uncompromisingly intelligent and artful songwriting with a striking mix of jazz and world music influences, featuring Gable on vocals, guitars and keyboards, Steve Rodby (Pat Metheny Group) on bass, Tom Brechtlein (Leonard Cohen, Rickie Lee Jones) on drums, Luis Conte (Madonna, Eric Clapton) and Alex Acuna (Weather Report, U2) on percussion, Bob Sheppard (Steely Dan, Lyle Mays) on flute, and Dino Saluzzi on bandoneon.

In addition to his solo career, Gable has composed and performed with the Yellowjackets on 3 Grammy-nominated recordings, and has written songs for artists as diverse as Chicago and Branford Marsalis. His songs have been recorded by artists in Brazil, Argentina, Italy, Japan, Finland and Korea.

Steely Dan's Walter Becker has described Gable as "first and foremost a great songwriter" with a "marvelous ability to combine exotic musical elements and seemingly disparate influences into a uniquely seasoned and tasty succotash."

I don't actually own this particular compilation, however, since I own nearly every recording represented on these discs...I think I'm qualified to comment. This is a wonderful representation of the high quality of work that DRG Records does.
The previous review is way off the mark. This is definitely not a waste of time or money. This is 25 years of preserving Broadway shows, Off-Broadway shows, studio recordings (mostly from the city center concerts), etc. So what if they "aren't as good as the original", DRG is preserving many recordings and artists that other mainstream labels don't or won't. You have wonderful recordings from Brian Stokes Mitchell, Nathan Lane, Debbie Gravitte, Tyne Daly, Anthony Perkins, Joanna Gleason, Marin Mazzie, Carol Burnett, Heather Headley, Patti LuPone, Barbara Cook, etc., and many of these are from Original Cast Recordings just as they appeared on Broadway. This is an excellent sampler of the work going on at DRG. No...I'm not an employee...just an avid listener and collector of theatre recordings.

There's a reason you've probably never heard of most of the songs and shows on this album, not to mention most of the artists. This is a second-rate collection of second-rate numbers performed by mostly second-rate artists. In the case of the shows that were revivals, the performances on the original cast recordings were better. Don't waste your money.

The music is beautiful just for listening. The first CD could be used in a wedding. The 2nd CD contains instrumental versions of the songs which is soothing and peaceful; it could also be used in a wedding, but not for a reception. I did not buy this to use in a wedding - just for the music and I was not disappointed. It's a nice background for meditation, or remembering your own wedding. I just bought a second one for some friends who are getting married. And the price is right.

The first CD is filled with popular classic wedding songs and is really good, but the last CD is music that would make your guests think they were trapped in an elevator filled with easy listening music. I cannot understand why someone would compile those songs for a wedding!

    A very fun, energetic power pop album that has more power than most. Several excellent songs ("Young and Stupid" is probably my favorite right now) made this a purchase well worth the money. A little bit of new-wave synth, some grungy wall-of-noise guitar, sharp vocals and harmonies, and some very catchy tunes.

    Music untainted by the US trend towards R&B, this band uses a synth (something nearly unheard of in this day and age) to put out some great tunes. "Fishtank" has some great synth work, as does "We Could Have Been Friends". The other songs are excellent as well, offering the kind of variety that will keep you listening again and again.

    Wow. The album that came before this with TPD, Dont smile were a dissappointment for us who has been following the band since the first single, but this is what i would call a smashing success. They have been crucified in the press and that have really made them angry. C-60 is a great album alltogether. Mats voice has never been better and Oves guitarrplay is very aggresive. Every song is actually good but fishtank and in two weeks u will be forgotten is outstanding. I allready look forward to the next album......

    A consistent buzz-fest of great pop-rock songs. I loved it upon first listen, and equally after three or four. A great cd to play in your car. Each song has its own unique charm, and theres nary a misstep. There is some great rock in Sweden and this is one of the best.
