Product Description
JazzIz Magazine February 2005 Vocalist Joe Bourne lived in the Netherlands for 25 years and has released 10 European Albums, but the Massachusetts native's latest CD is decidedly America. Remembering Mr. Cole is a salute to the late Nat King Cole, but not just as one of the quintessential American singers. The disc also features pianist Gary Moran and his trio with guitarist Ed Delucia and bassist Scott Black on the late -1940s material by the Nat King Cole trio, in which the vocalist was also an underrated pianist. Bourne's warm baritone and Moran's finesse combine on memorable versions of " Walking Baby Back Home, " Besame Mucho" and Sweet Lorraine". But with the assistance of De Lucia and Black, Bourne and Moran absolutely bring the king back to life.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Nat's early hits come to life with Joe Bourne and trio .......2005-03-15

Joe Bourne's newest CD is showing American music fans what their counterparts in Europe have known for years: He's a great singer and entertainer. The American-born baritone has returned from 25 years in West Europe to pay tribute to one of his role models. Providing the arrangements of some early King Cole Trio favorites, pianist Gary Moran handles Nat's piano playing while Bourne does a great job on the vocals. They're joined by bassist Scott Black and guitarist Ed DeLucia. While Bourne was in the Netherlands, Moran and Black sometimes played together in Chicago and DeLucia was traveling from coast to coast. Now all four live in Tucson, where they spent weeks making sure every note of this CD was exactly as the original King Cole Trio performed it. All four continue to perform elsewhere, but they draw big crowds whenever they play together or separately in Tucson. We in the Tucson Jazz Society feel truly blessed. You'll see why when you buy this CD.
