XYLOPHOBIA is vibist Steve Shapiro's first recording as a leader. Teaming-up with Nashville guitarist Pat Bergeson (Lyle Lovett, Alison Krauss, Bill Frisell, Chet Atkins), Steve creates a studio-jazz sound that mixes the vibes and marimba with guitars and spacious textures. Joining them are legendary jazz bassist Marc Johnson, veteran drummer Danny Gottlieb, and piano virtuoso Kevin Hays (who's won acclaim for his work with Sonny Rollins, Roy Haynes and Chris Potter). Also appearing are session horn players Tim Ries, Mike Davis, and Jim Hynes, who have accompanied everyone from the Rolling Stones to Paul Simon.

I love this CD. It mixes new musical sounds done by wonderful musicians into a cool listening experience. The vibes are fresh and exciting. Hats off to Steve Shapiro, who is a new jazz talent on the horizon.

I heard some of this CD, and decided to buy it. I love the vibes, but there are very few vibe players around. A very pleasant surprise to find someone I did not know of. Really cool music, with some great musicians!
