      Lullabies lend themselves to woozy re-creations, a sort of endless repetition that flags under the weight of the concept (putting kids to bed for their much-needed sleep) and the lack of weight accorded to the music. You might expect a Disney lullaby collection to be on a par with the most mediocre collections, but this one is really a fine set. The tunes are standard--from the famous "Brahms Lullaby" to "All the Pretty Little Horses"--but they're uniformly excellent and creative, staying within the realm of acoustic music that sounds and feels organic. These are Disney-related tunes, for the most part, so "Stay Awake" is here, as is the whimsical "Sleep, Daddy, Sleep." Musically, the set is varied, steering away from a repetition of instrumentation or delivery. That makes it easily entertaining enough for back-to-back listens, which any parent will be asked for with this collection. --Andrew Bartlett

        If you've been operating under the impression that songs with the word "bloody" in the title can't make for good lullabies, guess again: given the Baby Rock treatment, "Sunday Bloody Sunday" sounds infant-tested, sandman-approved. And, more important, not even the tiniest bit absurd. With their glockenspiels, vibraphones, and mellotrons, the Baby Rock magicians have spun sweetness and a soothing vibe into everything from "Smells Like Teen Spirit" to "Stairway to Heaven"; given the unthinkable nature of those undertakings, this one seems almost too easy. "All I Want is You" is a little on the snuggly side to begin with, after all, and so is "The Sweetest Thing."         No one will be able to say for sure whether Lullaby Renditions of the Beatles will successfully "glide your little one across the universe, through an octopus's garden, and send them into a slumberland of strawberry fields," as it says it will on the back on the disc, but one thing it won't do is bonk you over the head with the sub-par production you might expect from a novelty disc. The latest CD in the series that has provided hipster parents with wordless, infant-friendly versions of Led Zeppelin, U2, Metallica, and many others takes a turn for the unapologetically melodic here, having its way with classics from "Here Comes the Sun" to "Hey Jude." The result is, as ever, powder-puffy yet inarguably palatable, whether you're the one swaddled in the crib or the one staring down into it waiting for the sandman to arrive. "Michelle" was a dozy song to begin with; here it's a doorway to a peaceful drift-off that, with any luck, will last long enough get the laundry done. --Tammy La Gorce

        I bought two of these Rockabye CDs - the other being Bob Marley. CD isn't bad but, the real songs from the Beatles would have been better. I wish someone would produce a Lullaby CD with actual songs by real artists.

        I purchased this cd for my Grandson in Hawaii. My daughter called to tell me that it was a huge success. I haven't personally heard it but my daughter said it is the best lullaby cd she's ever heard. It helps that she is a Beatles fan and she's raising my Grandson to be one too. What can I say, she has good tasted.

        I first bought this CD along with several others shortly after my daughter was born and it quickly became the favorite. My daughter is turning 5 in a couple of weeks and this is still the CD she and I want to listen to at bedtime. We still love all the songs after listing to nearly every night for 5 years!. The music is all acoustic with lovely soothing melodies, quite rhythms, and beautifully sung lyrics. I strongly recommend buying this CD if you are looking for high quality relaxing and gentle music to help your child drift off to sleep. I've lost count of how many times I bought this CD and am always glad to purchase more.

        The lullabyes on this CD are performed in an extraordinary fashion, ranging from soothing melodies to stimulating interpretations with traces of jazz. When you need something to calm and relax you and your baby, these songs with their quiet meditative qualiy, will provide that for you. I highly recommend Tina Maia's Lullaby Favorites.

        I recieved this CD as a present at my baby shower many years ago. Well, my daughter is now almost 9 yrs old and she STILL listens to this every night as she falls asleep! The CD has gotten pretty beat up after all this time and has started skipping. Thank goodness its still available so I can order a replacement!!

          This is a real sleeper of an album, literally. Smooth-jazz musicians--including Peter White, Dave Koz, Norman Brown, David Benoit, and others--play music here to put babies to sleep. Fans of New Age music, specifically what came out of the Pacific Northwest in the '80s, may find many of these 14 tracks reminiscent of that period. Long-time listeners of smooth-jazz radio may be reminded of the kind of ethereal, spacey music that was played in the early days of the format. Many of the songs are as obvious as Brian Culbertson's somnambulating "Brahms' Lullaby" and Koz's "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star," but some are inspired choices with creative arrangements and strong performances. Koz and his brother Jeff shine on the Beatles' title tune and the other Lennon/McCartney chestnut, "Blackbird." Brown's take on James Taylor's "You Can Close Your Eyes" is also moving, while not straying from the stillness of the concept. Perhaps the standout track is the superb performance of vocalist John Stoddart on Stevie Wonder's "Isn't She Lovely." --Mark Ruffin
